Rheumatoid Arthritis Support Group
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem, autoimmune disorder. It is a disabling and painful condition which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. The disease is also systemic in that it often also affects many extra-articular tissues throughout the body including the skin, blood vessels, heart, lungs, and...
The blurry vision is concerning and that would be something I would address now!!
The nose sores are a pain. How much folic acid are you taking? Are you on MTX as well? I didn't get nose sores from Humira alone but mostly from the MTX and the folic acid did the trick to clear those up. I would had a high quality folic acid supplement.
The sinus infections that come with all of this immuno-suppression stuff is really awful. I live in a really, REALLY dry climate and find that my mucous membranes are almost always inflamed because they are so dry and irritated. I use a NeilMed sinus rinse often. I use something called "Ayr" -- which is an aloe and saline gel that just keeps things moist and I steam over a pot with a few drops of thyme, clove and cinnamon essential oils in it. The have antibacterial properties and they feel good! Be careful with the first whiff - that clove oil can burn!! It also makes your house smell wonderful! All of this stuff is cheap (the oils will last you years) and it will help! The sinus rinse will also stave off further infections because you are cleaning your nostrils of cooties.
Sorry that you are having a tough time with something that is supposed to help you. Humira never worked well for me at all -- it just did "nothing". I am on Simponi now.
Hang in there!

So you take mtx too? I have them too but from mtx not Humira. They started after I stopped Humira. I was taking mtx for almost 4yrs when they started. Rheumy says my body finally "discovered" it in my system.
It started with mouth sores and now the nose sores. The nose are the worst. They never seem to heal. When they finally do another one shows up. Two at a time is ridiculous. Add in a cold or sinus infection and just UGH! I use antibiotic ointment w/pain reliever on a q-tip and saline spray is a constant companion. Those seem to help for a bit. Other than that & increasing the folic acid I'm not sure what else to do.
Hope it gets better soon,
Emerald
Why off the Humira for 3wks? Did they find a sinus infection/upper respiratory too?
Buddhacat, I wouldn't describe mine as that bad, but definitely beyond the usual nasty. I could also do without the scabbing. The only point of reference I have is sinus surgery about 15yrs ago and that's the only thing that's come close. (Getting random samples like that from patients is probably high up on the list of why drs find the job so rewarding ;-) Sorry ...I'm desperately trying to find some humor in this day. Who knew that would be the topic I'd find funny? High pain & low sleep skews my sense of humor a little.
My mouth cracks & scabs at the corners too. Those are nasty too because of location. I should buy stock in chapstick & carmex. My mouth "sores" are more inside my mouth in just the right places to make eating difficult.
Feel better,
Emerald
