I think you need to discuss this with your rheumy. I hope the new one works. I'm wondering why you would want to go only oral? The injections and infusions are much easier. I was on Kineret for 5 years a daily injection I gave myself, and it had no side effects, except an infusion site reaction the first year.

If Imuran doesn't work, then you might want to try some of the biologics which are injectable. Strangely, with RA, you can get over any fear or obstacle, if it means not being in pain any more.

There are MANY, MANMY more meds!!

Many here ate on methotrexate and another biological such as enbrel, humira, or orencia.

In between for flare ups there's always the predniones for short term use.

Remicade here for me since July 09. Works pretty good. If you haven't tried a biologic I would be taking a look at them and find out if your insurance will cover them. Hugs, Charlie

I know exactly how you feel. I am currently taking Sulfasalazine, Plaquenil, Folic Acid, Prednisone, Methotrexate and Humira. It's getting a bit excessive.

Hi Life and welcome to DS. Immuran is in the category of meds that is an immunosuppressant and helps those with RA, kidney transplant rejection and colitis. It can cause nausea and vomiting an diarrhea as other meds can. As far as how it works exacytly in as far as medication goes for RA your Rheumatology needs to go into that deeper with you then please let us know. My Rheumatologist always goes into how all the meds work and how he thinks they will help me. Your Rheumatologist should be knowledgable enough to go into why he thinks you needs certain meds and explain why he is ordering them for you and the possible side effects.
That is not one of the many medications I have been on or am on now. Also there are so many biologics that are injections that do work. I know many are not pleased to be taking injections, but if they help you one must sometimes have to bit the bullet. Good luck with everything and let us know how the Immuran works fo

I was on all of them like jorgeG123, but now on Remicade infusions, injectable mtx, folic, and weaning down from pred at 7mg. and really starting to hurt. but I only had 2 infusions so far.

I am on the once a month inject. Simponi and Arava,and celebrex .
It,s all working pretty well. I have some siciatic never problem that hurts like crazy in my hip and leg. I would say just work with your Dr. the find the right magic bullet and go from there. It seems like the Ra meds work awhile and then your off and running try-ing to find another drug that will work again. hang in there. hope all goes well with you!

I am sorry you have had such a bad time of it. RA drugs do ungodly things to our systems, but sometimes those side effects pass over time. Oral meds have never worked for me. Have you discussed injectable MTX with your doc? I do know that imuran is taken in leui of MTX, because at one point my rhuemy and I discussed that option. Talk to your rhuemy, maybe it is time to rethink treatment and offer you the the biologics that are not taken orally? Good luck and welcome to DS. hugs, marcia
