when your doctor won't call you back? Last Monday I went to the eye clinic for an exam because I felt my sight was changing and my prescription glasses needed to be changed, but the doctor was concerned with what he saw in my retina, so ordered some additional tests. He made sure to stress that he wanted the technicians to call him while I was still in the office after they did the tests, so I went to the appointment on Thursday thinking that I would find out what he was concerned about it. They did call him, but he was with a patient at the time, so he said he would have a retina specialist look at the pictures of my retina, then he would call me back.

Well... here it is Monday afternoon, and I still don't know - he's not working today but will be there tomorrow, so the lady who answered the phone will tell him again that I called wondering about the results. I'm not a very patient waiter - and of course, all of these drastic scenarios are going thru my head.

Any ideas as to how I can quit worrying and obsessing about this?

I don't handle the waiting well either. I had a scare with work (was afraid I was going to lose my job due to a mistake I made by being distracted the day I got my diagnosis), and I worried about it all weekend. When I would catch myself worrying I would remind myself OUT LOUD that I can't do anything about it till Monday comes so stop worrying.

I would like to say that kept me from worrying, but I still caught myself doing it. But it did help in the moments.

I hope you hear soon......and try not to worry. It really doesn't change anything. Sorry I am not more help.

I hear you. I am also very impatient when it comes to waiting for results. The worst possible scenario plays over and over in my head. That is so inconsiderate of him. I always use this rule of thumb..if it was that bad, you would have heard by now! This test was done last Thursday, and the test results were more than likely not so serious. try to think of it that way, relax and remember there is nothing you can do until first thing tomorrow morning when you call him. I wouldnt wait for him to call you, I woulld call as soon as the office opends. Please keep us posted and hang in there :)

Finally heard from the opthamalogist today - he is waiting to hear from the retina specialist for their opinion. He said that last week was spring break, so perhaps they were on vacation. Hopefully he will call me back this afternoon or tomorrow with a direction to go.

Moving to a different waiting room.......the doctor will be with you in a little while........HA!
