Once I gave up using stirrups when horseback riding - the pain lessoned by half. But when I finished college and was on my feet for 8 hours a day - periodic flares of plantar fasceitist hit me. I had custom Orthodox inserts made which shifted weight off heels/ball and placed more on arches. Kept me mobile for those years - until my prednisone/nexium use caught up with me and I started getting stress fractures. Fortunately, right as those began happening I lucked out and went into diet induced remission.
Orthodic inserts were my saviors. The steroid shots into the feet didn't give enough relief to be worth a second try.
Good luck with the joint replacement!
