I have been gettng terribble heartburn from the meds too. My doc recommended that a) I lay off the advil (early on I was eating like candy!) and b) take prilosec for 2 weeks. It knocked the heartburn back for a couple months, then it came back. So now I take prilosec for a few days then it goes a away for a month, then back into cycle.

I cant comment on the heartburn as that is one thing I dont get with it. I can say however taking Advil or any form of Ibuprofen is a no no with MTX. I'm surprised the doc didnt tell you lam0814. Like I said, alot of issues with MTX but no heartburn, the lose of my tounge is probably the worse. Even a simple slice of pizza seems like I'm eating hot sauce right out of the jar. I just wanted to mention the Ibuprofen thing here, sorry for the lack of help with the heartburn.

I had heartburn when I was on it - took Zantac and that helped.

I was told to take MTX with my biggest meal at night with lots of water. With most meds, you should not lie down for 1 hour. I have never had a problem with MTX .

I use to have a problem with Ibuprofen. Prilosec helped. I switched to Nabumetone. Have not needed prilosec with it.

I was never told not to take it with low dose MTX. Thats what I took my first 6 months. I have seen the warning for high dose MTX. Thats a whole different thing.

I am taking 6 MTX weekly and like Cinnamint was told to take them with my biggest meal of the day--usually the evening meal. I have not had heartburn (yet) because of the meds, but I have taken Pepcid Complete for other heartburn. (Nobody told me not to!) The only problem I had with the MTX was when I was taking all 6 at one time. It was MTX Mondays and Toilet Tuesdays! Now I'm taking 2 on 3 separate days. Life is much better that way!

My doctor told me the MTX could cause stomach upset, but told me to take it at bedtime, and I wouldn't notice the discomfort. And he was right. Although I take nexium for acid reflux, so maybe that's why it doesn't bother me. And my primary doctor told me I would need to stay on the nexium as long as I'm taking the arthritis meds. So I guess we're all different

Thanks for the reply. I cut back my Mtx to 5 from 6 and today I was ok. I did have it last night. My biggest meal is breakfast, and I take my mtx after I eat. I have been on oit for 9 weeks now and I guess it's finally getting into my system now. I can't wait because my Knee still looks like a Basketball.

I got heartburn when I took pain meds regularly. I found that cutting out spicy food, coffee and fizzy drinks helped me deal with it. It didn't go away until I stopped the pain meds. I am on MTX too but have had no heartburn.
