Healthwise..whats a good substitute?

what is good natural sugar substitutes ( taste would be good.) Ive heard almond milk is good for you too..does anyone know that to be true? how about any sweet breads, muffins or snacks that are better healthwise? Im trying to change my diet without drastically killing my taste buds.and the prednisone is taking over my nights of sweets and food cravings... unbelievable, never ate like this before ever ! and Im ashamed of myself! something has got to give or Ill be 100 lbs overweight in no time at this rate ! please help with your ideas....thanks for any input. For a sugar substitute, I like stevia, but my daughter prefers the taste of agave nectar. She also drinks almond milk (the unsweetened kind), so that's what I use in baking instead of cow's milk. I try to bake without dairy or eggs to accommodate her vegan diet, but I don't have a good collection of reliable recipes yet.

Oh dear. What about nibbling -or even pigging out - on raw carrot? Also the latest fashion in information on dieting is that eating higher protein kicks in your mind's "enough" mechanism sooner. I know you arent dieting but maybe a little piece of cold chicken or tuna on light cracker would "satisfy" that craving.

It is the dreaded prednisone but Fight Back!! Strange how some people lose weight even if on prednisone - there was a posting on here somewhere the other day. wish I had been one of them...

thanks so much..Ive heard about stevia. but Ive heard of agave too, I will try it ! I think I will start off with those two changes and see how it goes..Im not sure I can give up my bread and wheat foods yet, thats gonna be a rough week for sure! thanks again !!

yes I remember that post, I wish it affected me like that too, stange though..I dont crave real food, nothing tastes good unless it is sweet, of course Im choking it down anyway but not what my body wants right now.even if not for the fat, but Ill be diabetic in no time ! carrots are kinda sweet...mmm I bet that will help..I love carrots and maybe some low fat dressing! thanks I will try tonight,

I really like Stevia. I use it to make a sugar free cheesecake. It is not low fat just low carb. My hubbie who hates sugar substitutes can't stop eating it. Let me know if you want the recipe and I will post it.

I use stevia also...and eat an apple at night for my sweet tooth...sprinkle a little cinnamin on it (should regulate the blood sugar). If I give in at night and eat anything else like chocalate or ice cream etc.. then I wake up with night sweats....wine used to do that to me too when I had any (stopped drinking that three years ago when I figured that one out) Good luck....I know I gained 10 lbs at least with the prednisone...gave up dairy and gluten for a little over a month and finally I am losing it.

Hi, I use almond and coconut milk now and like the taste. You can bake muffins with agave nectar by looking up recipes. When I'm good I cut and peel veggies to snack on ahead of time or buy the tiny carrots. Good luck and remember you are worth it. Hugs.

I see lots of good ideas here--- baby carrots have a sweetness to them, apples are downright good in so many ways, and some ham or Turkey wouldn't hurt either. My contribution would be oatmeal. Better Oats brand makes some maple flavored that is sweet, but not too. Also comes in app,e and other flavors. Fill you up without too many calories!
