Rheumatoid Arthritis Support Group
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem, autoimmune disorder. It is a disabling and painful condition which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. The disease is also systemic in that it often also affects many extra-articular tissues throughout the body including the skin, blood vessels, heart, lungs, and...
I've tried acupuncture for a variety of things, most prominently for fibromyalgia, but I'd be really interested to follow this fellow's progress. I'd also be interested to learn what constitutes "treating the disease."
When I first started acupuncture, I did have insurance that covered it. That was a really good policy that covered massage, as well. Very unusual.
Accupunture is a pretty non-nvasive procedure, and if you have the cash for it, I can't see a reason not to try it. My only caution would be that if you have agressive RA you may want to get on DMARDS sooner rather than later, perhaps in addition to acccupunture, to keep your joints from eroding.
In my humble opinion, you should do some studying as to how accupuncture works, why it works and just the basic philosophy. I know it is to basically let the energy flow in your body because when the energy is stuck, disease sets in. That's what ol' Dr. Wu told me. Geeze, I think I've tried most everything but a shaman. Maybe I should look one up in the yellow pages. It's amazing the stuff we do to get out of this rut we find ourselves in. On a fibro support group, they had a discussion going on coffee enemas. Nope, didn't read any of it because I was just too freaked out.
If you choose to get the acupuncture done, I hope it goes well for you. It's getting more westernized now and doctors are even doing it, so maybe that would be the thing to do. Good luck!
