Well, the liver can heal itself rather quickly, and it usually takes 4-6 weeks to see a change in blood levels. You gave your results for last week, what about before stopping the MTX?

It is possible, since most of your other meds are metabolized by the liver, that they were impeding healing.

On 3/25 AST 27 ALT 31 - first 6 weeks on methotrexate
On 4/22 AST 31 ALT 34
On 6/6 AST 32 ALT 33
On 7/21 AST 33 ALT 36
On 9/15 AST 39 ALT 46 - creaping up

Told to cut mtx to 4 pills instead of 8.

12/12 AST 309 ALT 473 - told to quit allegra, folic acid, enbrel.
12/15 AST 34 ALT 24 - all better?!

So increases each step - and then suddenly perfect?!

WHile your levels had been climbing, it may have been from insult on the liver, then it needed time off of meds to allow it to concentrate on healing versus metabolizing the meds.

Let us know what the liver specialist says.

but July this yr was the highest 188 on AST..i can get them written down, like u did later

so got off MTX, in July, 16 yrs..except being off for a few months in January///to MArch...elevated but not 188

went to liver doc in march, he gave me ok to restart .6 cc, mtx injectio
by July they climed to 188

and they pulled me off, MTX, and long term NSAIDS..was on Relafen 1500 a day

by AUgust, got off Zyrtec, simvistatin, all supplements, even Vit D, and calcium prilosec..but they didn't touch my cymbalta

had liver biopsy 10/20...piece of cake, ultra sound guided by radiologist

fatty liver, inflammation also...non alcoholic fatty liver..i don't drink

so 10/29 rheummy gave me a big lecture loose weight..have lost about 20 lbs
and
AST dropped dramiticall from 100 something to 33...32 normal
ALT dropped to 49, from 100 soemthing....range is 4-3 on that one

so they knew i was flaring bad without mtx..they let me restart it 3 weeks ago'
hasn't kicked in yet..so hurting and flaring, even after last weeks remicade..so gotta take prednisone, which can eventually raise the liver some

Liver do gave me the ok, to do cholestral med simvistatin, because it went high without it.triglerides will be better, and sugar..from weight loss

Liver doc went to India, for the holidays vacation...so he won't get a message about latest liver labs

she better give me something else, if i can't have an NSAID..never had stomach problems from the, have taken for long time

remicade is the only biologic that helps the peelings for pustular psoriasis..about 2 yrs ago, diagnosed with this

but i didn't flare so bad while on mtx and remicade....hope i can stay on it, and liver will be ok...and wil continue to loose more weight
Rheummy gave me to lowdown, on holiday eating!

I went off mtx in July for different reasons and was told it takes a good 3 months for your liver to clear it. My mom had autoimmune hep and one of the things I've learned through her experience is that the liver is incredibly resilient. Just make sure you stay on top of the numbers...

Had to stop mtx because of high liver numbers. After taking milk thistle (recommended supplement by rheumy), liver numbers came down to normal.

Had my liver doctor appt today - physical exam went great - no signs of liver problem. Waiting for today's blood work results but doctor seems FULLY sure this was methotrexate and cymbalta! I took cymbalta (30mg) for IBS and apparently a lot of ppl take it for chronic pain too. So, the methotrexate started messing with my liver the moment I started it...just didn't rise that fast initially, but I've taken about 900mg in a years time and there is a cumulative effect on your body. With an insulted liver, many of my other drugs could be suspect in adding to the problem but liver doc has seen this a lot with cymbalta.
I'm nervous about my lab work due tomorrow or Friday. Since the most recent was normal, it is supposed to be good again, but the waiting causes worrying which causes stress.

I did ask what I can take for heartburn - tums. For allergies, benadryl. My Rhueum. told me to take my enbrel and so I'm doing that too, otherwise, I am not to take anything else.

my doc tend not to worry to much about the test results, she say's it changes so fast that by the next one i could be just fine. but, now if it stayed that way for a few test in a row, then that would be a problem.

I just try and take care with herbs to help cleanse my liver
