Humira was my first biologic. I did do the first one in the office, but then left immediately. Anaphylaxis, had it happened, would have felled me in the parking lot or on the way home. All other bios and mtx, I was left to my own devices to deal with it.

I took mine at home and didn't have any problems.

I gave my first shot at the Dr office, since I had no clue on how to give the shot. Hopefully, you will get much relief.

I am to get my first shot of humira at my doctors office so they are sure all goes well. Hopefully this week...but it is looking like it might be next week. Gosh it seems to be taking forever to get this medicine for the first time.

Yes it took 3 weeks for insurance to decide to pay for it along with the humira plan

It might be a good idea to be sure someone is there w/ you during the injection and for the next 30 minutes or so. I can understand your concern. Just seems like being your first injection they would want you to be in the office, but I'm not an expert.
Maybe a friend could be with you....

I did mine at home but I made sure that my husband was aware so he could call 911 if necessary.

I sure understand your concern. I wonder why the docs don't have the patient do the first injection in the office?

Thanks. I imagine one reason it is not done in the office is because some of us have to use a specialty pharmacy and comes by ups. And to expensive for doctors to stock in the clinic. Thanks for all your input

I was one of the first home patients for Enbrel. Doctor showed me in the office but my head was still spinning when I got home. (we had to mix the meds then!) I took Enbrel shots for over 15 years. My best advice is if the injection site burns - put an ice pack on it for a few minutes. I had to switch from injections in my legs to my stomach due to bruising. Other than that, I was great for 15 years.

I was given my first two shots in the Drs office, from their 'samples' while waiting for my first delivery to arrive ( ins. was approved right away, but 4th of July holiday delayed delivery). Once I had received my supply, I took it in for the 'training session' so gave myself my first shot in the office.

First two shots were given in my arm by the nurse and I had no reaction. Subsequent shots were given in the thigh ( alternate between 6 locations) and I have gotten a site reaction each time. Not sure if it is because the meds are building up in my system or not. Will start to take prophylactic Benedryl ( per nurses suggestion)prior to shot next time to see if that helps.

Awesome thanks. Well I got through it on Saturday. I did ice it and took me some convincing to do it but it went okay. I didn't think it burned much maybe because of the ice. Thanks for the support and advice

I would only worry about it. Hope it works I tried it and it work for about 7 months then back to bad pain and misery!!!
