it went very well. i let the acupuncturist know that i had ra and my hips, wrists/fingers, and shoulders were bothering me a lot. she poked around and felt my pulses and energy and said she felt my liver was sluggish. which i found interesting.
she started to tell me that in chinese medicine, the liver and the gall bladder have a lot to do with supporting the joints and tendons around them... i told her i didn't have my gall bladder any longer and she asked when i'd had it removed. i told her it was 5 months before i started experiencing ra symptoms. then when my needles were being taken out, i only bled in one spot - the liver spot in my ear. she said that sometimes is good because it means the qi is being cleared out.
i've done a bit of digging online about this, but it's so hard to find reputable websites. does anyone have a reputable chinese medicine website they can recommend? or their own experience? i believe in acupuncture - my sinusitis is gone after having three treatments in 2004ish. and my cat is getting acupuncture to support her kidney qi since she's in kidney failure (she enjoys it and appears to be doing well). thanks in advance :)

I went to an acupuncturist years ago for an unrelenting chronic pain problem. He was also my veterinarian- had originally learned acupuncture to treat horses, got certified for people later on. I loved the fact he was a vet- anyone who can treat an abscessed tooth in a dog, do a C-section on a cat, then treat eye problems in a horse has a lot of knowledge and skills! What I really liked was that he respected regular Western medicine and was willing to work WITH me.
If yours respects your need to go back to a rheumatologist and to go back on drugs (if that's what you do), you're in good hands. Watch out for the ones who think it's a crime to use 21st century medicine.
Have you asked where you are having acupuncture done for website suggestions from them?
I went to a museum on Thursday with some girlfriends from my water aerobics class, It was great fun and I was able to walk around for for two hours! Word me out in a nice way.
