Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem, autoimmune disorder. It is a disabling and painful condition which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. The disease is also systemic in that it often also affects many extra-articular tissues throughout the body including the skin, blood vessels, heart, lungs, and...
I am just worried because it sounds like you may be headed towards that. Getting on a biologic is key. Plus, do you have sero-negative RA? Because that tends to be worse in the hands and feet. Some doctors think it is milder, let me assure you it is not.
As for the prednisone, have you tried going down 1/4 of a mg in the 1 mg tablets. I would go down 1/4 for 2 weeks each time you lower the dose. Or do they not think your adrenal gland will start working? I had adrenal insufficiency with the 100 mg pre-loading dose for Rituxan in the 2nd year. I was completely bagged for 2 months, before I complained to my doctor and I did 20 mg, which didn't affect me. I've been on prednisone for 16 months now. I went down too quickly once, and I got that again. Really a terrible thing to go through - I feel sorry for you.
Not sure what sesmoilditis is? I hope you get some answers.
Just your LEFT foot, not both?
If the docs say it's inflammation, i guess it is, but one of your doctors made a very bad call and caused you harm by suddenly stopping your prednisone (I wonder if he is still your doc?) But... in any event...
My daughter once experienced very sudden excruciating foot pain - unable to walk. It turned out to be FALLEN ARCHES!
I would get an opinion from an orthopedist and also a really good PODIATRIST, not your run-of-the mill neighborhood podiatrist. Try to find a doctor associated with a hospital that has a Prosthetic/Orthotic department if possible.
You would be AMAZED how much custom orthotics can help even the WORST foot, ankle, knee and even back pain!
I'm sorry to hear about your pain and my measly recommendations are probably not enough but I would find a expert podiatrist as others have suggested.
