has anyone ever heard of this? I stumbled on it by accident while looking for something else and NO, I don't sell it or advertise for it, I have RA and other issues too. Was just curious if anyone else on DS has looked into it: this would be "food grade" diatomaceous earth"

I started taking a little daily about a week ago and am feeling kinda good about it, have noticed a few good things but want to wait about 6 weeks to make sure the diatomaceous earth was the reason for the good stuff happening.

Haven't heard of it but it brings to mind concerns regarding spores, etc. that might be healthy for soil but not so much for those of us with compromised immune systems. Be careful and keep us posted!

I have. Thought of trying it, but there is no real benefit from it. The body doesn't absorb much of the silica from it so it mostly goes right through your system. I heard it may "scrub" your intestines and colon and give a good cleaning.

My husband owns a pool maintenance company and it pretty up on all of the chemical stuff. I'll see what his opinion is. Never would have thought of this one!

trish, I've read that the pool grade diatomaceous is NOT edible but the food grade (looks like flour) is edible as a supplement-

I can tell my skin feels less dry, hair looks a bit better, haven't really done anything different except for taking the D.E. but will keep on for about 5 weeks and just see....

I have been taking this now for 6 weeks. I have noticed some less joint pain and quite a bit less heartburn and indigestion. My last blood work at the rheum. was good, I told her about taking the D.Earth and she didn't have an opinion one way or other, so...I'm going to keep taking it for now. The only problem I've seen is some more constipation to deal with.

Right, there are 2 grades of DE. Only the food grade is edible. I had a small bag of it, about 3 pounds. It's a really, really fine powder. I was going to use it the chicken coop to absorb some of the moisture and to help prevent mites.

Before I used it I talked with a friend who knows more about chickens than I ever will. He said -- No, don't use it. The chickens will be kicking it around with the straw. You don't want them breathing that powder in.

Not sure which type we used, but have several times in the past used it for bug extermination in the yard.

when I was researching it online, I did see a lot of people used it for chickens and barnyard type animals--- they considered it an organic way to deal with mites and other bugs..and I know people are supposed to be careful about breathing the fine powder.

I took food grade DE for about 2 months. After 1 week my RA was much better and I had lots of energy. After 2 months my RA was great. I only stopped using it because I fell and broke my arm. I am about to begin it again this week.
My 85 year old Aunt uses it for osteoarthritis and she has improved a lot and only takes 1 teaspoon per day instead of 2 tablespoons. Make sure nor to breathe the fine dust.
As for chickens, use the non food grade which is brown, much less dust.

I am aware of its negative lung properties, airborne as to inhalation.

those of us, who happen to be on biologics are best suited to telling the rheumie and liver doctor if we have supplements we are investigating before ingestion

Seeing as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are such different diseases I'm curious about the supposed mechanisms and pathways that make diatomaceous earth work for both. I'm familiar with it as an insecticide and as an industrial abrasive..

i'm sick to death of it.

right now I am looking at it clinging for dear green life to the huge filter for the pool awaiting a winter over. i need a volunteer to back wash the DE back wash off the filter. send someone.. that's enough for the DE for me.
