i am a a choker and gagger - which makes my babyfood vegan diet convenient for necessity.
the neurosurgeon who did my neck surgery has stated that nope, not related. no comment there.
over at the ENT i had the ph wire test down your throat for 24 hours at home, the computer report from the wire showed a failure and especially during daytime. i have been referred for a scope and a widening discussion from the ENT to a ENT surgeon. have you had that yet?
i take generic acid medicine twice a day.

Sorry this is happening to you. It is painful and scary if you don't know what it is. The first time it happened I thought it was a heart attack. I learned to drink a glass of ice water fast to break up the spasm. It works well if you have ice water available.
Hope you get answers or better yet, it never happens again.
the neurosurgeon stated flatly that my neck herniations including the one he operated on leaving behind hardware do not contribute to throat spasms. see no comment above. i am not having the widening without the ENT consulting (same teaching hospital) the neurosurgeon, irrespective. he left the plate and screws, he gets consulted :)
i have/had been on omepraz. for a good long while when I did the 24 hour ph wire/computer up your nose and down your throat test.

Even with fluids I'll feel like I'm going to choke, like food & fluids are getting stuck.
I'll get the worst pain in my upper back when it's severe.
Also wondered if it had anything to do with fusions & herniations.
Doesn't happen all the time but enough to be concerned.
There is also deep pain in my throat area that will hit me at times. Very hard to describe as its not in the actual throat but further down.
Sharp deep pain much in the same location I feel my food & liquids get stuck in. Wish I had better way to describe it.
Remembering the surgeon explaining that the hardware from the fusion is right there by the esophagus has made me wonder.
Like could the hardware be loose? I know this happens.
Frustrating not knowing. Terrible at the thought of adding another dr to my list. Did have the scope years ago. Some minor problems but that was it.
Did not realize RA Sally this could be RA related. that list just grows.
