BF just had his right hand done..it was his baby finger and ring finger. He is scheduled for the left hand in October. The thing is, do not wait until it is beyond repair or the joints will freeze and they can only do a little correction... if any... takes about 5-6 weeks to recover fully. first week is the hardest as it is wrapped up pretty tightly to prevent any damage.

Not connected to RA?? That was one of the symptoms that helped me get referred to a rheum. doc. And my rheumatologist has given me steroid injections in the knuckle to stop the trigger.

Above is a link to a great Dupuytren's forum. They've amassed an amazing amount of information. I had big problems with what may or may not have been Dupuytren's a few years ago. Like Bcatz it was one of the things that led to the rheumatologist's door.

Dupuytren's often causes trigger finger, but not all trigger finger is Dupuytren's, by the way.

It's a strange little disease. Very common in some ethnic groups, completely unknown in others. Paris has a hospital specifically for DD treatment and research. For anyone doing battle with "this little gem" as Trish so aptly calls it, there are several treatment options, each with benefits and drawbacks.

Plenty of the people on the Dupuytren's forum have RA or other autoimmune diseases. There's speculation that DD is at least partly autoimmune, but i think that's still up in the air.

I have a few trigger fingers and my hands are all swollen... I had one rheumy tell me it was from my diabetes. But when I went to my now Rheumy and told her about it that the old rheumy told me that I needed surgery to correct it... she said to wait and see if the mtx and plaquenil would make it go away.... well for me it did go away for about 3 months until my hands started to swell again which was about 2 to 3 weeks ago and now they are back... but I am in a big time flare every thing hurts every where again... just like before taking the mtx and plaquenil so now waiting on getting humira to add to my combo of drugs and will see if that will help get my pain back down and if my trigger fingers will go again. So if one rheumy thought it was from diabetes and the other thought it was RA ... it must be autoimmune at least.

I had trigger thumb and surgery fixed it. I think we get it because of the inflammation in our hands can damage tendons, etc. as well as joints.

Yep had it before my DX with RA.
Finger would stay bent, especially upon waking in the morning. Along with my elbow. Hurt to high heaven. Kind of freezes & gets stuck.
Swells also, a lot at the base of the finger.
Another sign I was not aware of at the time.
Wishing you luck very painful not to mention you feel like your missing a finger or thumb.

There's a name for that ?!?! I'm waiting to see my rheumy and that is one of the things I am seeing him for! There a name for that! Who knew. Sometimes finding out there is a name for this stuff helps me to feel a little more sane. A lot of the time I just feel like I'm loosing my mind
