I'm glad to hear that you are being proactive about these insurances - very true that things can happen quickly with us with RA.

Tough choice - more stress vs. less money. When put simply like that I will always choose not to have stress. Money isn't everything but stress can bring my RA on like a monster.

Why do you take on the burden of paying for 2 more cars?

it is preferable, should you ultimately be medically forced onto these benefits, for you to pay for the LTD insurance with your own money 100 percent after taxes by the way. If you choose to pay for the LTD premium with pre-tax dollars (as and you become disabled, your LTD benefits will be subject to federal income tax.
If you choose to pay for the LTD premium with after-tax dollars, you'll pay more now. But if you become disabled, your LTD benefits will be exempt from federal income tax. This distinction is important because your LTD benefit replaces usually around or lower about 66% of your monthly pay, and taxes would further reduce the LTD payment you receive.

They are canceling both, as well as vision and dental too. I did stay in remission/control during a five week period when admin decided they hated everything they used to live a race about in my teaching style. So I cried every night and jumped through whatever hoop they threw at me. Turned out someone in the district office wanted me gone - so even though the admin recommended my renewal after I proved I'd do whatever they asked - I was laid off. So I don't think stress has a significant effect on my RA. That said, without the disability insurance, I'm screwed if it does flare.

We just can't afford a $300 per month pay decrease to pay out of pocket - while our other expenses go up by $500. (home owners and life insurance are also going up by hundreds..) ... In 2016 we are looking at another 10% decrease in total income as Obamacare causes our income tax to skyrocket since we have job provided health care benefits...

Woo-hoo! Was called and offered a job just an hour after the interview! Think I'm going to love it too. This principal has turned it from one of the worst ranked schools in our state - to nationally recognized for improvement - in just give years. It's now ranked in the top ten of the state.

Not to mention that he wants me to bring one of my 'ultramarathon' competition horses to football games and dress as the mascot.

Hubby and I can also carpool, since the school is 11minutes past his work. So we'll be able to cut vehical costs in half - while I make 30% more AND have great benefits. I am in cloud nine right now!

I am having issues with my short term and long term disability......short history I worked in the medical field, have paid for both these policy for almost 20 years. My MD wanted me to quit my job due the increase risk of infection and she could see that the last 6 months i was missing more work.and my health was suffering,..May10th of last year, i was on call and could not stand the pain. MD took me off work until some improvement and pain level under control. She knew I never took my pain medication while I worked....so I notified the insurance company and inform them I was filling for my benefits. That's when the BS started, my MD and I jumped through every hoop...My MD actually called them. I got approved for 3 months and paid.... now at the end of 3 months they declined to pay me the other half to equal 6 months on short term. So dealing with the stress sent my RA into overdrive... dealing all the paperwork, thank GOD for my husband's help and support and also filling for social security disability suggested by my MD, ,I was approved for social security disability 8 days after filing because my health was so bad. we appealed to the insurance concerning the 3 months short term monies due., they informed us that they had 45 days to notify me their findings. 45 days ended today and received a letter that they want more info from MDs. and they had an additional 45 days to make their decision.....this fight is just for short term cant wait to see how long term is going to work.....any advise would be welcomed.....thanks Gracie

You are so right to push for a job that has LTD benefits. And medical and dental etc, etc.

I was totally healthy when I was working as a teacher. Then I got severe asthma, but I still pushed through the exhaustion and lack of O2. After allergy shots, I got RA. But by then, I had worked 10 years, the magic number for pension, and the LTD I tried part time to start, and after 1 1/2 years, I had to go full time LTD and I have never taught again.

In October of last fall, they forced me into retirement - Factor90 they call it. Some combination of my age and years taught (including 16 years on LTD) So now I am on pension, with some kind of bridging extra amount till I am 65.

Teaching is so different in Canada. Or maybe I should say in BC. Once you get your permanent status, which has to be in the first year these days, you are in for life. Removing a teacher means a crime has been committed so you lose your teaching certificate. They do reviews, which are Satisfactory or Not Satisfactory. I've never had a Not Satisfactory, but I would imagine they give you a list of things to improve on, and work with you on improving.

Although sometimes the principal left something to be desired, and I would go to a different school. I had lots of seniority and I was able to get the transfers I wanted.

Anyway, praying you will find a job that is not stressful, but meets your income and Disability needs.
