hi well i am still waiting for my hearing but yes there are alot of people that get disability for ra. my story is along one. some people have no problem getting it others like me are still waiting or get turned down for one reason or another. but i finally got a lawyer this time and hopefully it will go through cause all my docs feel that i should get it and there on the same page. even my laywer feels that there is enough info on me to be approved but when is it going to happen im not sure. some people get approved within 6months.

I was able to get 1 year of LTD from my company and Permanent SSDI for the RA. The key is making sure they know ALL your ailments not just the RA. Remember everything complicates the RA and the treatments. So make sure when you fill out your paperwork you have to TELL your story... Don't be afraid to tell them that what is difficult...like myself feeding myself after typing... so that is why i only type late at night anymore and only 5 to 10 mins a day..

Lovebaby, I applied for disability last March and was accepted about 6 months later. I talked to doctors before I applied so that I knew they would be on board. I didn't need a lawyer. I suggest you just be honest and don't say you can do things that you can't. Good luck.

I am not a the point yet of ]needing disability due to RA, but my husband was on SSD and we needed to put down everything from a-z as far as what he could or coudln't do, lift, help with bathroom activities, dressing if necessary. Everything. So don't be bashful let it fly and talking to the MD's first is a good idea.They need to collaborte what you are saying. My husband got his SSD in 6 months. That was with me applying right away after he became ill. Good luck and keep us posted.

I tried to get it too last year, but I guess I was to honest. I told my Story,and filled out all the paperwork. What I can and annot do at the moment. I told them that at times I feel good, but on other I can't even dress myself. I guess they just looked at all the good days I described and not the bad ones. I will try again, but I feel mostly good right now and know they'll deny me again.

Hi Bigi,unfortunately when it comes to diability forms and RA sometimes honesty is not the best policy or in othr words you have to basically mention your bad days or you may mke yourself out of luck.Hope things work out for you next time.Best of luck in getting the disbility.

I too got Disability for RA/Fibro on my first try - after 5 months. I also read everything I could on the website that Tessa mentions. If I hadn't gotten it on the first try I would then have hired an attorney, but thankfully, I guess I had all my ducks in a row (including my doctors and medical records) and told every little detail I could about how my condition made it so how I COULDN'T do certain things. You've got to go to bat for yourself. Tell them how your life is now messed up big time - in detail..... even the littlest things. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
