Good for you.. No sense in suffering when you don't have to..I also have a cane. If I need it I also have a walker that folds and has a seat..It also has a basket under the seat...

We have to do whatever it takes to make it easier on ourselves.. Don't be surprised if you get dirty looks for parking in a handicap even with a plaquard... It happens to me all the time...

I am ready for the next one..I am going to hold up the medic alert bracelet and tell them to choose which one of my medical problems they would like to take on for me...lol

Dear ncgranny, I would think of your coping mechanisms in positive terms. You are actively dealing with your disease, something to be proud of. Keep on truckin' Granny. I've read all your posts and they buck me up, being an older widow also. Hope your son is doing better too. J.

I hope you get better soon ncgranny. I have a cane in my closet and I won't hesitate using it when neccessary. I got my placard back in November and I use it faithfully when flaring. Thank god my meds have me somewhat under control now...three weeks ago I would've had my cane too. I'm learning quickly to accept whatever assistance I need.

I've been using a cane since 1999, when I need it. Which was this whole winter. My knees were feeling better 4 weeks ago, so I stopped using it, and slipped in the snow and fell backwards and hit my head and whiplashed my neck. My toes are fused on one foot, and hammers on the other, so no toes to grab the ground, which might have prevented the fall in a normal person. I also got my placard around 1999.

I have a wheelchair too, but haven't had to use it since I got on a biologic. But it is there, if I need it. Sad, but true. These aids are there for a reason, there is no sense pretending we don't need them. Sorry you took this step, but really, it is the only sensible thing to do.

Angela, you are exactly right. It was really past time for me to get sensible about this RA beast and take advantage of some help. I must look pitiful moving around because people in line at the DMV offered for me to sit down and they would hold my place in line. I thanked them but did not take them up on their offer. Lol. People are great if we just allow them to be.

I have a cane, walker, scooter and use them whenever I need to get around. For Mall shopping I take my scooter. In and out of stores I use my walker, or, cane.
You'll never stop a woman from shopping......especially with all the devices we have. Get whatever you need to get you there and back, or, you waste away at home.

Have a cane and a placard..Like you say it is there when needed...Gee we have really young peeps here in mass with placards, they even drive sportcars..Those are the ones' I wonder about or the ones' that drive huge trucks...lol I am 5'10 an for the life of do not think I could climb into one of those monster trucks...LOL..
