Ok, in the big scheme of things (the serious and life changing cr#! we have to deal with) this seems like a pretty lame question, but here goes......I'm am long over due for some hair color, trying to maintain my natural "blondness" with some highlights and low-lights, and I am wondering if the MTX and Enbrel will have a negative effect on the color taking/holding? Anyone willing to share?

i have no idea *L* i have colored my hair soo many times its crazy. just get it done by a pro and dont forget to tell them u take meds that effect your hair.

Call your rheumy's office - they may well know. For me, no problem with Ebrel but I've never taken MXTX so can't tell you. You might check on line re side effects.

If anything my hair has been better. I color and highlight every 8 weeks. It has also turned into beautiful waves if I let it dry naturally. I take 5000 mgs. of Biotin everyday to combat the hair loss the MTX causes. I think it really helps with all of the above.

Call the Drug Company and the 1-800 number on the box of Color. I don't think it matters if you get it at a salon, the Colors are almost the same.

I do color my hair (since I started getting some white hairs) :( But I don't see any difference from when I used to color it before I was on RA drugs. I also go to the pool alot which is very bad for my hair and so have to use treatment and color at least once a month. Sorry can't be more helpful.

I have my hair coloured and highlighted at least every 2 months - I've noticed no difference from before I was on MTX.

I am on enbrel and also get my hair colored / highlighted. No difference than before I was on enbrel. Blondes have more fun!!!

I get color and cut every 6 weeks. Have had no problems with medication effecting the outcome.

If I didn't color and cut that often, my self-esteem would definitely have a problem! :-)

i color mine every couple of months, or when the silver wings really start showing! haven't noticed any difference since i started on the meds 3 years ago.

(and, yeah, blondes DO have more fun!)

Thanks ladies. I'll be making an appointment with the hair salon real soon. I am trying to keep up my physical appearance, even though it has really turned into hard work. I just don't want to give into this disease and look as junky as I feel. I've briefly toyed with the idea of letting myself go then people might say "oh, she does look sick...", but really, who cares what others think? Most just don't get it anyway, and I want to feel good about myself when I glance in the mirror!

I read where you wrote "I take 5000 mgs. of Biotin everyday". Is that in addition to Folic Acid or do you not take that? Having trouble with my hair from the mtx......thanks!!

I haven't had any problem with coloring my hair - - - the only problem is - - - -
I am losing my hair!!! I've always had thin hair, and wondering if I'll soon have NO HAIR!
I've been on MTX since March.

I dye my hair and my meds (Enbrel) don't seem to have any effect on it.
