Have bad bladder infection; saw doc yesterday. he is constantly rx'ing things I can't take, like sulfa drugs. he is an idiot. anyway so last night I looked up the "Cipro" (ciprofloxin) he rx'd before I get it filled.......and it says bad reaction w/prednisone as well as other meds I take.
*specifically it says you can end up with bad tendinitis if you take that together, and I already HAD THAT happen before, when I was taking a similar class of A.B. along w/prednisone .(levaquin)
I am 100% sure of that and ended up with wrist in a brace and all kinds of other crap for years thanks to that. The docs don't even consider discussing things like that though.

anyway does anyone A/ know about this contraindication with RA meds, and B/ any ideas what other antibiotic could be used for bladder infection?
since my pharmacist is so busy and my doc is so dumb, I thought I'd get some idea before I start calling them.

When I had infections and was put on antibiotics I was told to stop taking Mtx or Enbrel. My Dentist had put me on Keflex and my Friend had warned me not to take it,nso with her suggestion I called the Poison control center and they said also not to take those together they would be toxic.Ask your Pharmacist, he is the one I go to now.

I recently had a UTI and my Rhuemy wouldn't start my MTX until I was off the Cipro he said antibodics won't work when on MTX or similar drugs like enbrel or humira Not sure if there are any antibodtic that do Is it a Rhuemy prescribing this to u

My rheumy advises to come off all RA meds when I'm on an antibiotic - but I have been on both prednisone and an antibiotic (often times with bronchitis I need the prednisone to help me breathe and the antibiotic to kill the bronchitis)

thanks, all. I am not on mtx or anything like that. I am on Plaquenil and prednisone plus NSAID. even though the plaquenil is in the booklet he gave me called DMARDS, IDK if it is really considered that.

I ended up having my PCP switch it from Cipro to amoxicillin which is not as effective for the UTI but I'd rather try this than go through any more tendon injuries from bad med mixes.

I have never been told this for any of the meds I have been on. I have never had a problem, and I do the anti-biotics thing a few times a year for one thing or another.

Now with Rituxan and 6 month infusions, it would be impossible to wait to go off, in order to take antibiotics. But you should do what your doc says.
