Congrats on the new apt. I have a sensitivity to the cold, so at home our a/c is set high at least at 75 and if I get to cold even then I'll jack it to 80. Make sure you keep the thermostat set up high enough that it's not kicking on all the time. And yes you can close strategic vents if that helps. Never thought I'd be saying this but I'm getting to the point where I almost don't even want to use it except on extremely hot and humid days. Hope you find your happy medium soon. Carol

Oh yes, have to wear my arthritis gloves at night because of the cold.
My husband needs it cooler so I cover-up. Also going shopping can be painful where the air conditioning is way colder than my house.
Found using an electric room fan to move the air, not blowing on me, without so much cold
helps for sleep.

lowiina- What kind of gloves do you have? I've been considering buying a pair.

I'm in the central valley in California-it's supposed to get to 109 today, after a week of triple digits so I understand the a/c quandary. You can also buy a deflector for the vents around your bed. They are magnetized so you just have to place them and it will deflect the cold air away from your bed. I try and keep my thermostat at 76, on really hot days 75-but it does get you you after a while. My husband sort of gets it, bless his heart. Good luck in your new apartment. Trish

The gloves are...Thermoskin Premium Arthritic Gloves (with open finger-tips) they are available on Amazon. Tried other brands etc., but theses have been the best, on some others they didn't cover my knuckles but these do. I put them on when going to bed. Good luck.

i have opposite breathing problems of most folks. air conditioning worsens my breathing. like a pleurisy. i do better with fans and showers.

it's going to snow again for 5 continguous months and dump snowmaggedon two here come late fall.. i am going to live in the moment and welcome hanging out in minimal clothing. my joints do better in he summer than the winter. we are all so different. but I can walk without worrying about wiping out on black ice, float in a pool, and unwrap my joints and shed the clothing and the work work work work of snow snow snow snow snow. . I am not going to complain for a nanosecond, i sleep by using a 1/2 dozen fans it sounds like an airport in the house but the heat on my body without seven million heating blankets on it, feels like a gift from heaven. I do not think I have defrosted, yet. I am still looking at ice dam damage in the house that I have not fixed, yet. that is a gentle reminder to me to enjoy. it will be over in a heartbeat.

Sorry depot you live in one of those places too terrible to mention during the winter. My husband keeps trying to talk me into moving to Florida when the kids are out of school (we have 8 more years). But I keep trying to convince him to move somewhere not only hot bot dry too cause I can't handle the freaking humidity anymore.

I had to look at the date of this thread to see if it was pulled up from last summer! And it was NOT.

I live in BC, Canada. We are a very warm province. But a polar vortex is over all of northern and western Canada. Even Vancouver got snow and cold. We are usually around 0 to -1c here. So 30-32 F.

It has been snowing for days, and down to -18c today. OF

But my family is in Alberta and the NWT. The Alberta people were in the -30's. My son in Yellowknife it was -42C -44F, plus a wind chill. It's cold!

At least we have natural gas to keep our houses warm when it is like this. Don't anyone tell me fossil fuels are bad, when we would literally die without them in Canada. (Wood smoke is much more polluting, I lived with only wood heat for 7 years!)

I couldn't live without A/C in summer. But we are semi desert and it is semi desert and temps get into the 110'sC or well above 40C.

I'm grateful for a/c, but even more grateful for gas heating all winter. Not sure if they bother me, I never notice!!
