Hi AEliz, I truly understand you not being able to give yourself the injections. I couldn't either when I first started and I am a nurse. I took the Humira to work with me and had another nurse give it to me. After a while I was able to do it myself. I am certain your husband would give you the injection ever so gentle. He would not want to hurt you. You just have to get past the thought. If the nurse gives it to you at the doctor's office there is a charge??

I gave myself Embrel shots for a year, they were very painful shots ( I have no idea how painful Cimza is ) I never thought I would be able to do it either, but I would just focus on the fact that the shot would help me to not hurt so much and I would grit my teeth and do it, I had the auto injector , it madegiving myself a shot eaiser. This never made the shot hurt less but helped me get thru the injection. Hope this helps you.

Hi there, you are not alone, the 1st time I gave myself the inject I puked, so the next time that came around I turned the tunes up, got the dog to lay at my feet so I could put my leg up called a friend to help talk me though it, it does get easier, just have to find something that will help take your mind off of it, I know, sounds easy but have faith you will be able to find something, also, I did not look at it.

It is hard at first, I still dread doing it -- it DOES hurt - but I know it is helping.

Christine - in our area, a nurse giving a shot does cost, from $35-$45, depending on the clinic. My husband got a flu shot, charged for the shot, plus the nurse giving the shot.

That adds up with getting injection every month. It's hard, but I would try the distraction technique mentioned and gritting the teeth as I have done in the past. Also icing the area does help with dulling the pain of the needle or auto click pen going in. i found the auto click pen was less painful than the subcut needle itself. Good luck.

Oh yes, the iceing of the area before the shot is so very helpful!! I forgot to mention that, I put an ice pack tied to my thigh area for several minutes before giving the shot, it really was a tremendous help with reducing the pain.

They make something called Emla or something like that that deadens the skin and makes shots easier.

Hi! I like Christine had a difficult time giving myself injections and I am a nurse also. I also had a fellow nurse (that would not tell anyone) at work inject me. After the third week I decided to be brave and start self injecting and had no problem as of yet. If your husband is an LPN I would let him inject you and save the cost. I agree that does add up monthly. Good Luck!

Hi AsEliz, I have been on cimzia for around 18 months and at first was terrified of giving myself the injections. To be really honest the cimzia doesn't hurt. I do them in my stomach and they don't really hurt. Try letting hubby do them for you and I'm sure they won't hurt. I actually had to get my hubby to do one for me a month ago cause my hands weren't working well and he managed no problems (he's an interstate truckie with no medical knowledge) Hope it works for you.

I was scared of giving myself injections too. I did Enbrel shots every week, in the pre-filled syringe. When I changed to Humira, it came in the push button contraption. My husband gives me the injections with the pen, the noises it makes startles me every time. I will be getting my Humira in the syringes next refill. It is less painful and at least I don't jump because it doesn't make those awful clicking noises!

Light house you are so right. There is a cream to help with numbing the site that will ease stinging of the injection going in. AsEliz, you have gotten some great advice. Let us know how things work out. As you see, it is all too common for many of us to just down right not like to receive injections nor do we to even think of giving the injection to ourselves whether we have experience or not. It is a tough thing to do and I commend all of us who have to do what needs to be done. You can do it too AsEliz.

Hi I ice the area really well, and I almost don't feel it going in until the very end. Then I put the ice back on for a minute and then I'm done. It has helped.

EWwww! It is so hard. I was using methotrexate injections for about 6 months but just had to stop because it quit working and the higher dose makes me really sick. I'm going to post about it but I saw your post. If you can imagine yourself doing it over an over again in your mind and as you do that make sure your breathing is relaxed and slow. It's a desinsitizing trick that may help.
