Bursitis?

hi everybody,
I'm newly diagnosed with RA, and am having particular trouble with my hips. My doc thinks I have trochanteric bursitis, but cortisone shots have not helped. My understanding is that bursitis isn't directly caused by RA, but that we're more likely to get it since it's another kind of inflammation...anybody else had trouble with this? What helped? Thanks!

I have chronic bursitis in both of my shoulders. You are right about people with RA are more prone to bursitis. Sometimes the cortisone shots work for me and sometimes not. I have done physical therapy, ice packs, heating pads, anti inflammatories, pain meds,arthritis creams. I have also had 3 surgeries to clean out the joint and bursa. Even after 3 surgeries I still get it in both shoulders and made need "clean up" surgeries in the future.

I had had the diagnosis of bursitus in my shoulder before I ever knew I had RA. I had cortizone shots each time and they seemed to do the trick. I am sorry that the shots haven't helped you. Hopefully you will feel better soon. ((hugs))marcia

KIND OF..
I AM CURRENTLY DEALING WITH SOME TENDON-
ITIS IN MY RIGHT ELBOW..I DON'T THINK
THAT IS AS SERIOUS AS BURSITIS..BUT I'M
NOT WELL VERSED IN THIS AREA..I HAVE HAD
NO REASON TO SUSPECT A LINKAGE THEREFORE
I'VE HAD NO REAL REASON TO RESEARCH THE
CAUSE..
MAYBE THEY'RE NOT RELATED...WHO KNOWS..
