I thought it was RA until I changed my drugs.....

Now I know it was just the drugs.

Wow, what a question. Now you got me thinking. I have been wondering this myself, but didn't have the courage to post this. I was extremely sharp minded and quick thinking before I got sick. I had a photographic memory. Noticed I said HAD!
I have often wondered what it could be. As far as I am concerned, it has to be one of the following:
1. The disease itself.
2. The stress of coping with the disease.
3. The side effects of the drugs.
4. A combination of all 3 above.

I tend to think the last one. The disease has it's own side effects on the body. I can't imagine that it wouldn't effect the brain as well as the other organs and body systems. We all know the stress of having the disease has a negative effect on the mind and body. We all know the drugs to treat this disese are toxic. So as for the drugs... enough said. Now combine all of those and I think this would explain the brain farts that we all must feel!

I have brain farts everyday...I get so angry with myself because I can't remember things that I know ...I sit here like I am in a fog...Not fun at all...At first I thought getting old but this is more than getting old...Thanks for bringing this up...At least I am not alone in this...

LOL, YUP, me too!! I will have a well formed thought in my head and go to tell hubby....not sure what really comes out of my mouth. It is very frustrating. Mostly I notice it when I am talking to him. Sometimes i just forget how to say a word or jumble the sentence all up...Sometimes I am in a hurry to say something and that equals disaster! I have worked really hard for many years in public speaking. I have a freaking Masters degree in Education!!! But, I can do that just fine....I can talk in front of a group. Anyhow, i have been training hubby to just "go with it" because when he stops me and says "WHAT???" it makes it soooo much worse! So, I also surround my self with friends that can figure out what it was that I was trying to say.....

I am right there with you, lol! We call em brain farts here too. However complete mental blocks are called brain clouds - and I've had them both. i think Redpixie has the right idea, but I also have Fibromyalgia for which a major symptom is brain fog. As long as I can find my way home I figure I am ahead in the game,lol

I seem to have these so called, "brain farts" also. My kids are always saying that I am loosing my mind!

I experience brain farts when I am having a conversation with my fiancee. We'll start talking and I'll be fully engaged in the convo and then all of a sudden I black out. He says I continue to talk to him and nod and acknowledge him but in my head I have no idea what he is talking about. We have noticed it more lately than before. His theory is the drugs. Mine is that there is too much going on in my life and stress with coping with RA. Interesting topic! I am going to talk to my Rhuemy about this!

Brain farts here as well and I think beano for the brain is a great idea! I notice that I sometimes take longer remembering names and that really bothers me. Sometimes, I have a "spelling" fart where I'm not sure that is how something is spelled and I always have been the resident dictionary for my friends.

And here I thought it was just age....

I am with Deby, thought it was my age...but sure I get them way more often than I want to admit. The best is when you walk into a room and then scrratch your head why you rushed in there to begin with. lol

Drugs, coping, age.
My GF is so patient with me. I only get 4 words out and have to stop .....................................................trying to construct a complete thought when I forgot what I was going to say. I do what brooklynn612 does too ("continue to talk to and nod and acknowledge but in my head I have no idea what is talking about"). I can usually pull that one off because she just attributes it to me being a "man".

LOL, yup, you sound like a man....LOL I try that with hubby, but sometimes I even miss the "question" that he asked....nodding my head does not work.....But, what are we going to do? My hands have brain farts too.....dialing numbers, typing...ugh...
