I meant a ganglion cyst. oops

The only thing I know about those it that my grandmother, and my great-aunt get them. My great-aunt refers to them as bible thumpers, and whacks them with a large book to burst them. This makes me shudder, and my grandmother said she can't watch her do it. My mom also has had a couple, and had them removed is a much less painful, although more exprensive way. Apparently, bible thumping used to be a common method of treatment.

I get cyst on my feet in the joint my doctor said its because my joints leak .

I had them off and on when I was growing up on both of my wrists. Now, I just have a small one on one wrist.
Yes, the bible-thumping method works - actually recommended by a doctor - I chose not to do it but fell once and landed with my wrist bent and it took care of it (horrible, horrible pain - but it was gone for about 20 years!)
My current rheumy says it's a leaking of synovial fluid.

I had one about 8 years ago. It was on my wrist and the size of a golf ball cut in half. I saw a surgeon who wanted to remove it but shortly after I bumped it while putting my child in a car seat. It burst. It was extremely painful but I'm happy to report it has not come back. The surgeon really thought it would. I had asked my doctor about hitting it with a large book and he said it's not recommended because you can break your wrist.

I would have supposed there was a difference in ganglion cysts and synovial fluid leaking...is there? Does anyone know? If you have ganglion cysts does that indicate that you may have RA? None of my maternal relatives have RA, but do have ganglion cysts, so I am curious. If they, the cysts and the leaking fluid, are the same...
I do not currently have any known genetic reason for RA, unless these cysts are markers.

I have them on my wrist too. I thought they were ganglion cysts but rheumy says it's synovial fluid leaking, so not sure what a ganglion cyst is then. My rheumy wanted me to have surgery ASAP as he thought this fluid leaking would rupture my tendons leaving me unable to use my fingers. I thought this drastic but the surgeon said the same thing. Since this doesn't hurt (one of the few things) I didn't want to have surgery as I thought they were a little dramatic. I went to another doctor, a GP who did his residency with a rheumatologist so knows more than your average GP about RA. Anyway he agreed with me and he drained it. It did come back after a year and I had it drained again. He told me once the pocket is there it most likely will come back. The only reason I continue to have it drained is so my rheumy leaves me alone about the surgery.
