Unfortunately, yes - this happens to me often. Often enough to where I no longer just get out of the car - it's a five minute ordeal of making sure I'm getting out as gently as possible. I don't have an explanation for it -maybe someone else does?

Yep - happens all to often also. I have to take each step very carefully. I found last summer I can't even walk across our lawn (field) because of the mild bumps in the lawn. Just the fact that my foot lands at a slightly different angle each time will have me chair bound the next 2-3 days with my ankles streaming.

Same goes for just about any joints. If I use a screwdriver for even just 1 minute I can count on my wrist and fingers being pretty much immobilized for the next 2-3 days.

Just yesterday we did one of our bi-monthly grocery runs. Last night and this morning my right ankle is acting up pretty badly - this is just from driving with my foot on the accelerator pedal for a couple hours.

What kind of pain was it? electrical type shock or stabbing? I've had some pain but am really wondering what causes pain like this? I remember as a young adult, jumping pretty far off something and having both feet/ankles hurt so badly that I wasn't sure I'd be able to walk but then it went away quickly.

Your not alone. I popped my left ankle just walking across the living room - thought I was going to throw up it hurt so bad. Talked with the rheumy about it - degeneration of the ankle she tells me. Now I wear a brace on each ankle for extra stability. Oh how lucky we are - not! Good luck to you.

Thanks guys!! I guess I'm not alone! It was a crazy intense blunt stabbing pain that felt like I landed on the bone of my ankles minus my feet. Just hitting the pavement. Not sure if that makes sense. Thanks for your comments!!

When something like this happens to me the pain comes the following day - and not a knife stabbing pain but close enough.

My ankle pain is what sent me to my rheumatologist which led to my RA diagnosis. I could hardly walk due to the pain. The explanation of degeneration of the joint makes perfect sense. When I step down from the car, I also have to do it very gingerly and slowly. I've been hurt too many times! Stepping down from a curb is the same thing.

The only way I can describe mine is like hitting a metal pole with a baseball bat. The pain is almost electric and then reverberates. After it stops the throbbing is still there but without the initial intensity. Then it will be tender or feel bruised for a few days.

My wrists do it sometimes too if I pick up a pan off the stove or a gallon of milk without thinking.

I really really dislike that sensation. It has been intense enough to make me vomit.

I agree, seems to be part of the "FUN."

I get it sometimes while walking, in my ankles especially. I'll be scooting along at 5 mph, then come to a sudden halt, with a pained look on my face. Thankfully everyone I work with knows what this means.

Alto referred to it as the "Who just nailed my foot to the floor?" (That Alto.)

Yep can happen out of no where.
To me feels like my ankles are twisted & going to break. They do not want to support my weight. Makes me stop in my tracks & gasp.
Try to brace them best I can during these times.
I swear you never know which joint is going to misbehave at any given time. Makes it hard to be prepared. Braces in the car, purse, next to the bed........(big sigh) life.....
