Rheumatoid Arthritis Support Group
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem, autoimmune disorder. It is a disabling and painful condition which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. The disease is also systemic in that it often also affects many extra-articular tissues throughout the body including the skin, blood vessels, heart, lungs, and...
And the feet should be xrayed, so start with a podiatrist, maybe
It could be any thing, a tendon..but your suffering with this pain too long, and a podiatrist, could tell you more than the rheummy
Isn't foot/ankle pain the worst?
Hoping that will go away when I try enbrel again Sunday. I have been wearing self-adhesive tape (attached firmly with masking tape) when I walk and that helps support that ankle. Hard to know what to do about toes, they seem to want to move toward the right with that side of the foot.
Hoping taking enbrel again will stop RA progression. Had to stop enbrel in May due to itching, but may have to put up with that to get RA under control. Cimzia did not touch RA and wore off quickly.
Rain here today also and that is always fun.
Does this mean we'll need a wheelchair in 10 years or what? I could handle this RA crap if didn't bother my ankles and feet so much.
hope you find some relief
with this ! Pain on top, balls of foot, toes and heels. (hands too) Miserable hard
to discribe pain...hurt so bad pain. I have been on Enbrel MTX and pred for 16 months
and it kept it at bay but now all my pain seems to be creeping back .
Hope you are better soon. Hugs
Although, since adding Meloxicam, that pain is down from a 4/10 daily average to a 1-2.
I noticed last night , I have a bruise on the left side of my ankle....well, a tad higher--like between 1-2 inches higher........now I don't know if that is why it's been hurting like heck more than usual or if maybe because I was trying to sort of rub/massage it that I bruised myself?
I know I did not hit or bump it.
I also noticed last night, taking off my sweatshirt, it feels like I am bruising my arms, when I am struggling to get a top off.
(anyone else have huge struggles with taking things off , over the head???)
it's like I am super duper sensitive all over. Even though my past doctors sort of pooh-poohed my wrapping of my knees or ankles, I do think it helps even just a tiny bit so I think today I will try again ...I even bought an ankle wrap. Geez come to think of it, I have an elbow one, lots of hand ones, both wrists kind, what else.....knees...I have an ACE bandage or pre fitted wrap for most big joints . I even finally bought a neck brace. Majorly uncomfortable ! Can only stand it for about 5 minutes, max.
(But my neck does feel somewhat better after I do.)
I walk , a LOT and I'll be damned if this RA is going to stop me. It is the one thing I can do for sure and I feel like if I don't, it will be a short time before I am completely debilitated, in a wheel chair, etc. and so I keep walking, despite the pain.
BTW I used to wear Birkenstock shoes up until the past year when even they hurt me.
Can't wear flip flops at all. I happened to buy some tennis shoes that don't hurt as long as I don't tie them tight.
I realize we are all different but if anyone wonders it is the FILA brand and it says "DLS Lite" on it.
I was struck by your comment that you keep walking anyway, despite the pain. I find walking exacerbates the pain so much that I really avoid it. Really not sure if I should walk more and "tough it out" or stay off my feet as much as possible. (I exercise using a stationary bike, which doesn't bother my ankles at all.)
Even when I found drugs that helped my other joints, nothing helps my ankles, so I am really wondering if something else is wrong with them. The amount of pain is so extreme, beyond pain killers sometimes (like last night). I also have neuropathy in my feet and this confuses things.
I want to go to a podiatrist but for some reason my rheumy is reluctant to refer me. But I think I'm going to press. I suspect that I might have developed ankle tendonitis of some type.
Anyway, I have pain first and foremost on the front of my ankles, but also bad pain on the sides, and the achiles tendon. Also, bottom of feet and top of feet! I can only wear SAS orthopedic shoes now, they help a huge amount, but not enough. Icing helps me a lot. Heat does not help my feet.
Do you worry that by continuing to walk a lot you could make things worse? I worry about that but not sure if it's a valid worry or not.
Good luck in getting to the bottom of your foot pain, and please please update this post as you go along. A number of us are really suffering a lot from ankle pain & we can all learn from each other's experience!
