Hello... The last two infusions of remicade caused me to be sicky feeling for over a week... I am not wanting to get my next dose... if i am on methotrexate and plaquenil...would that be enough to keep my disease in check? i have been on that for one yr. no changes in pain... fatigue.
i got involved with a pain management dr and now my pain is under control... biologic? or no?
i am having gastric sleeve surgery on monday. i am wondering if losing weight will change my RA symptoms...
am i the only one who flares when a storm is coming? this last storm was in my elbow! nothing touched the pain... storm gone... pain much better
this RA can eat at my joints... how will i know that it is causing damage? some say pain is not a clear indicator. my doc only uses xrays to check...
one yr of pain with no pain meds... i finally broke down and got some. my quality of life went up significantly. i know the down side of taking meds every day...but so far the good outweighs the bad. scared to get surgery because of my immunosuppression... any advice? M

Sorry the remicade does not agree with you. I have been on it over a year. I am a little tired after my infusion and sometimes have a headache. So I guess i am lucky. Here are my thoughts on biologics: If the mtx and plaquenil were enough to put your RA in remission,I don't think your doc would have added the remicade. Anyone who needs to lose weight benefits in several ways less stress on the joints, heart, etc. I think most of us have co-existing health issues which can really add to the overall stress. Does your rheumy know you are having surgery? Were you instructed to stop the mtx and plaquenil in prep for surgery? If you havent spoken with your rheumy you should just to double check. my hand surgeon did not care to even discuss the biologic. he said it's all the rhemie's call period. that was cut and dried...
but the neurosurgeon said he would not operate (the neck thing) unless his orders about the biologic were followed and he was a no biologic for 12 week man which he extended to 14 weeks.
i am thinking the stomach guy will have an opinion about an IV infusion iff it is after his or her bariatric surgery. but I don't know anything about the process.
see if you can nicely get them to commune with each other

RA isn't like normal arthritis where losing weight will immediately help, but eating well and less could impact you nicely.
If the pain returns, don't hesitate to jump back on the remicade. I delayed Enbrel for a long time and regret it. I was in remission for 2 years but felt pain after that. I really should have started the Enbrel about 6mos before I did. And now, it's taking a lot longer to work,
