My GP was telling me of some recent research which shows that the risk of cancer from one MRI increases from 1:100,000 to 1:10,000, if you have two MRI's in a year the risk increases to 1:5000 and for three in a year it's a staggering 1:2000.
I've had lots of X-Rays/CT Scans and an MRI for my chronic back problem; but knowing this now I will opt for a CT Scan over an MRI (even though the MRI's produce a superior picture). Maybe check with your rheumy, is it essential you have an MRI or would a CT scan be just as useful, and less expensive to your pocket? Good luck.
my rheumy does them at his office and insurance will pay 100%. Otherwise, I get hit with a big chunk of it!
