Retried Anxiety and Depression Community Group
60 years old and retired 2 years ago. After the retirement "honeymoon period" been struggling with intense anxiety and depression. I have no clue what to do with my life. I realize the anxiety/depression are compounded as I sit home and do nothing, but they are causing me to not want to do anything. I have to believe others are experiencing the same; thus this group!
Procrastination gets easier after retirement. I call myself temporally-challenged, because I cannot remember dates or appointments. Calendars don't work for me, because I forget to look at them for days at a time. I am pretty sure this is a form of psychic blindness, but not sure whether it is organic or psychiatric in nature.
The automatic reminder services used by doctor's offices have been most helpful for me, because I am seldom very far from my cellphone. I only need to remember to keep it charged. I have a phone with a spare, replaceable battery, which helps with that, but most newer phones these days don't have one. The calendar/reminder system on the phone doesn't do the job for me, but I'm not sure why. I never see the notifications until it's too late, even though I have tried tweaking the settings. Also, I don't know how to keep old entries from filling up the phone memory. It happened one time and it was very bad. I had to factory-reset the phone to get it working again, and lost a lot of data.
