There is quite a bit written about the "gendered nature of abuse" and much of it is often used to silence or minimize male survivors. When stats are reviewed that actually treat male and female survivors equally by asking the SAME questions and using the SAME terminology to classify the results, then the numbers change drastically.

The copyright on that piece was 2008 and the oldest stat was from a 2001 publication.

Equally depressing was the publications search page of the National Sexual Violence Resource Center when placing a search for male sexual assault with any publication type -- one result was actually how to engage men in the movement to end sexual violence. http://www.nsvrc.org/publications?tid=277&tid_1=All
Oddly enough a search for just Rape/Sexual assault brought up different results.
Even the RAINN website, the section on male sexual assault says nothing about female perps. Granted they don't mention the gender of a the rapist at all male or female but it might provide more help to say that no matter the gender of your perp. it still counts http://rainn.org/get-information/types-of-sexual-assault/male-sexual-assault
“Penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim.”
I think "penetration" is rather restrictive. Do they class a woman getting on top of a man's penis as penetration? Historically, this has not been the case. The oral rape definition _sounds_ gender encompassing but actually isn't because you can't "penetrate" a mouth with a vagina. All they have really done is remove "the carnal knowledge of a female, forcibly and against her will". They are still managing to exclude female and male victims of female rapists who did not penetrate their victims with any body part or object. If I am reading it correctly, that is.
