I won't have the same volunteers for my kitchen that I've had every previous year--they just can't make it this time.

One option I have is to see if the church we rent from might have available kitchen workers for hire. But I thought I'd just ask, at least: what if I asked for people to donate one meals' worth of time to help? No obligation, but any takers?

Food is always simple, so we don't need gourmet chefs here, just someone that can help set stuff out, heat it up in an oven, whatever. It's easy, and Tonya has offered to help oversee the kitchen for us this year too.

I’ll gladly help – but preferably not with the cooking (due to some stuff in my past). I could set stuff out, clean up after and the like.

Oh, and as I’ll be renting a car, I can also drive people from, and to, the airport or a hotel in OKC.

I was just about to email you and let you know that if there's a way to manage it (and there IS a way) that I would be willing to drive a 12 or whatever passenger van a couple of trips to and from the airport on Thursday and/or Friday.

I can't pay for the whole cost of renting a van myself, but am arriving Wednesday and leaving Monday, so can drive Thursday/Friday and Sunday if needed between OKC and Stillwater.

Should I try to figure out costs of renting van plus gas and ask women to chip in?

I can take on some role in coordinating that if its helpful.

Also, I can't have Nugget in the kitchen, but I'm guessing we'd have some volunteer Nugget-sitters if you needed help for a meal. :)

If you're helping to drive women form the airport to the retreat, it would be very fair to ask them to share the cost. It would certainly still be more affordable than if everyone tried to take care of their own car travel by themselves. Transport is not a "free" service offered as part of the retreat, it's just something we try to make sure is taken care of so people aren't stranded.

One option I'm looking into is renting a van and having one of the retreat helpers do some driving too, but since it's not part of the cost covered by registration (it's an extra service we're doing out-of-pocket to help people), I'd certainly ask for some small contribution back to cover the cost.

I'm game in the kitchen and game for driving a car if needed. I just am not renting one unless I get guaranteed buy in's for cost because I'm 24 so it's stupid and obnoxiously expensive for me to rent one. The cost for 5 days would be more than my monthly car payment.

You know already though Matt. I'm the Atkinson slave for the week. :)

I def need a ride to and from OKC on Thursday and Sun and absolutely plan on helping with the expense of the vehicle, gas or whatever other charges there are. I think anyone needing a ride would want to do the same thing.

So, it's looking like my friend will be getting a car and be able to transport people on Thursday to the retreat and may or may not be available for transport back to the airport on Sunday but will not be available on Monday as she has to drive back down to the airport she's flying out of.

Who would need a ride TO the retreat on Thursday?

It's probably a good thing I cant make this year. I can't cook unsupervised. I can't drive. When I do the pots at home alone I flood the kitchen. And when I get asked to put water in a cool box, I empty it out of the bottle and into the cool box. You know, because everyone likes drinking water out of a cool box ;)

I CAN carry luggage though. I'd probably be allowed to set the table...obviously with a permission slip prior to arrival.

I can not cook at all, I can slightly microwave but anything else I can do just let me know. I am not sure what Nugget but as long as it is not a gross bug, lizard or some slimy scary thing I'd be happy to help with Nugget as well.
