I like the Indian Taco idea for Saturday night.
Sandwich fixings for lunch or maybe the salad bar.
I think before the sweatlodge we probably need to offer some protein to give us some substance beforehand. Maybe boiled eggs, protein bars or breakfast bars, something like that.It would also be pretty easy to put together quiche-type casseroles Friday night that could be cooked in the morning. Eggs and veggie type.
I'm willing to help coordinate or prepare whatever needs be.
I had a great idea for Saturday, but it depends what people want. After the sweatlodge, we'll have this nice bed of embers where the fire was. What if we set up tables all around in the shade and had a picnic lunch with hot dogs cooked over the coals, and coolers full of water and juice and sodas?
Deedo, thanks so much for your offer! I hadn't been able to reach you for a while, so I was worried you might not make it. I am SO glad to see you planning on being there! (Folks, Deedo is one cool momma! She's one of the funniest and fiestiest folks I know!)
I agree with the protein. Scrambled cheese eggs? Yum!!
My only issues are really beverages...cause thats where my only dietary restriction is.
But you said Juice...and I imagine water? lol. I'll be alright then I suppose
The Indian tacos sound wonderful. The hot dogs sound wonderful. Likewise to the salad bar and potato bar....and sandwiches. I am quite comfortable with laid back foods...and, if there is something served that I cannot eat, I can always make a PBJ and live quite happily...no fuss or bother for me please. I want to enjoy every minute, I can eat any other time, lol.
I have an aversion to eggs, and oysters, and okra...pretty much any slick, slimy food. Oh, and mushrooms...pooey..can't do 'shrooms. Other than that...I am really quite easy to feed. (Especially if I can sneak away to Chick-fil-A....nah, just kiddin'). I typically skip breakfast...(I know..most important meal of the day...but, for breakfast foods, eggs are kind of a staple). I usually eat the first thing I put in my mouth, around 11:30ish, so...I can go awhile on my fat.
My only big request....Diet Mountain Dew...I love it. Love, love, love it...:0) That, or Diet Dr. Pepper....I really have a distaste for water....;( (I know....what kind of Nurse am I???).
I don't do eggs, but, I love grits....do they have those in Oklahoma???
L, Love the diet Dew and Dr Pepper, I'd like to have some water too but I want to get bottled, I don't want to screw with my system drinking good clean Canadian water then going to American water ... (just kidding .. sort of) anyway I'm going bottled water.
I also hate mushrooms and don't eat seafood cause, well cause it will kill me so since I'm fond of breathing, I avoid it.
I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT ALL OF THIS!!!
What if the foods were separated so people could combine their own, as opposed to "rinsing off the chicken breast" so you can eat it?
What about barbeque chicken? And salad bar?
Love the idea of hard boiled eggs and fruit for sat morning. Taco's sound good too. So does pretty much everything everyone said.
I need bottled water. I have a sensitivity to chlorine, so can't drink tap water or I tend to get sick.
I don't like mushrooms, cooked spinich, or peas. Those are the three things I really hate. Red meat really isn't a good idea because everyone wants their meat cooked different. And like you said, we're volunteers, not chef's.
I love to cook, and would be willing to help wherever I can.
I'd be up for grits. I'd be up for anything new really.
Wish I could bring an Iggy's stand with me lol. We'd have clamcakes, chowdah, and doughboys. :) lol.
I like the hot dog idea too actually. Seems like it's collaborative and will initiate a lot of conversation.
No mushrooms, spinach, or peas. No grits, because around here all they have are "instant" kind, and anyone from up North won't have a clue what a "grit" is anyway--ha ha!
The "choose your own sauce" idea actually sounds good - marinara, bbq.
The post-ceremony hot dog cookout should be good because it's something we can set up in advance, so nobody is missing a chance to participate because they're cooking. Weather permitting, it ought to be a blast.
How about fresh fruit with yogurt for breakfast on Saturday? It solves the protein issue, and according to every TV ad I see, being a woman inherently means you have to eat yogurt, apparently. (No, it's true! See: http://tinyurl.com/bsdfkt )
Indian tacos seems like a unanimous hit.
We have two cooks, but since they are volunteers any additional voluntary help would be appreciated!
Im not a picky eater, so whatever is there is a-ok with me! The ideas so far sound good...and im down to help cook too!
