I totally support anything that promotes RAR and makes it more available and recognized, but I cannot add it to my profile as a member because, well, its kinda a dead give away... Sorry.

But I'm really glad this is up, and whoever is open about their experience, I hope will join to spread the word. This is fantastic. I did check it out already and I hope it grows quickly :)

I'm with Scuba. It's a great idea, but I'm not ready to announce that I was raped to my kids (only 2 of them know) my extended family, my current friends and colleagues, my old friends from high school, etc.

Where does it say that you're in the group? I joined it, but in order for me to find it I have to type it into my search engine. I scoured my profile and couldn't find anywhere that it showed I was a part of that group.

Also an idea for all of you. I have no issues with being open about my rape. But to those of you that do, you could always say that you are a part of the group in support of someone you know who was raped.

I'm sure that James could (and should) make the discussions piece of the group private, that way our posts are even safer there than they would be on this website, where anyone can view them.

under info it lists your groups

if you look at your page and hit your "info" tab, its listed under "groups". Also, sometimes, on the right side of your page, whether its your home, or live feed whatever, there will be advertised groups like, "Disneyland Group" and underneath the avatar is says "Stephanie is a member, become a member too!" Or something to the like.

I just cant risk it coming up, sorry. I really dont care about co workers and friends, it's my family I've never said anything too and I don't intend on it.They are ALL on facebook, and sorry to say, my family kinda has a big mouth!! LOL

I totally understand those who want to keep their anonymity. I have such a great out for my family ( who still don't know) though: Oh, my husband wrote this book!

I've edited the group settings so that non-members cannot read discussions. We are already up to 15 members and the group is less than 24 hours old at this point. Also, new members are not automatically added to the group. Instead, an email goes to the Admins letting them know a new person wants to join. This will allow us to screen new members if needed.

Several members of the RAINN Speakers Bureau and survivors/advocates associated with Rape Is Never Justified, Pandy's, and Holly's House have joined.

I can fully understand that some survivors will not be able to join due to a preference to keep their status as a survivor private. As I've been speaking and writing publicly for over a year now, privacy on this issue is long a thing of the past regarding my own experience. For those who can participate, I'll see you there! For those who can't, it is understandable and I hope to someday see you there.

I am with Scubagirl. I belong to the RAINN group, but almost everyone knows I used to volunteer for the local rape crisis center. This group is personal for me, and I want to keep it that way. I am applauding those of you can join.

This is such a neat thing, but I have some questions regarding it. I'll be PMing you about them.

We are now at 40 members in the Facebook group and it looks like a few members of that group, including some high profile advocates involved in survivor work and anti-SA advocacy. Some of the FB members are seriously considering attendance at the Retreat as well.

Thanks to those who joined from here or referred others and an extra thanks to the other admins who are sharing the burden. :)

Is there any setting where you can join to gain access without it being in your profile since its a private group (which I think is necessary btw)? I just can't have it there...

Yep. There's a setting about whether to show your groups on your profile page or not. You can tell if its working or not by viewing your page as it appears to someone else. The only thing is that when you first join a group your status updates "so and so just joined such and such group". But if you keep an eye open for that you can delete it quick I think...
