The whole "date rape" term does bug me. I think that if you are going to distinguish between types of rape, I'd prefer the terms "stranger rape" and "acquaintance rape". Maybe because the latter fits my situation --- and the situations of a number of other women I know --- much more accurately. I didn't go on a "date" with my 63 year old neighbor back when I was 23 years old, and I wasn't on a date with him and his nephew.

But to imply that date rapes or acquaintance rapes are somehow less rape-like and less traumatic and less of a sexual assault is extremely offensive.

I agree!! I have gotten the "oh, well it was just date rape" a few times. And it's infuriating.

Why not just call it rape?
Some hate bulking it up, but really if we dont bulk it all together some cases are looked at as lesser than others. Which I don't believe in.
