Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) may be described as uncontrollable urges to move the limbs in order to stop uncomfortable, painful or odd sensations in the body, most commonly in the legs. Often sufferers think they are the only ones to be afflicted by this peculiar condition and are relieved when they find out that many others also suffer from it.
Hi, I am new to the group and need help. I have suffered from painful muscle aches since 1998 but had no idea it was RLS. I was resigned after trying many medicines that this was something I would just have to suffer with forever. Then my doctor suggested RLS and prescribed me Mirapex. What a wonder drug - for the first time in 11 years, I found something that helped. I still wake up with muscle aches but it usually prevents them at night which is so great. I started Mirapex in April and take .50 at night & in the morning. Everything was great until a few weeks ago I started twitching sporadically in my legs, back, and arms while sitting or laying down. I called my doctor and am going in next week because he does not think it is related to the Mirapex. I read about its side effects and it said twitching was a side effect for Parkinsins but not RLS - maybe because it is a higher dose for Parkinsons?
Has anyone had twitching on Mirapex or from RLS? I can live with the twitching more than the muscle aches so I really don't want to go off the Mirapex if possible. Thanks and I am looking forward to getting to know all of you.

I have had rls for over 30 yrs and just started taking medications about 8 yrs. Never knew what it was before. I would not wish it on my worst enemy.
I have not had the twitches at all. When you say twitching are your legs and arms moving involuntarily? If so. you may have plmd (periodic limb movement disorder) which can be during your sleep or when you are awake
I am glad that you are posting and know that we will all help as much as we can.

Thanks for the feedback. My PCP thinks it might be related to a combination of my thyroid dose being a little high, an increase of cymbalta and the mirapex so he lowered my thyroid dose a little and told me to lower my morning dose of Mirapex from .5 to .125. My muscle aches are worse in the morning and afternoon but the twitching is a little better. I am still getting it at times but much less than before so maybe it will go away in time. I also had very brisk reflexes (especially knees) when examined so who knows. Hopefully, I will be able to go back on .5 of the Mirapex in the morning soon. I still get some muscle aches on .5 but nothing like before. Charlene, I agree, I wouldn't wish this on anyone. The twitching is sporadic and all over - legs, arms, neck, feet, etc. I have not read much about PLMD but I have always twitched at night when I am falling asleep. My husband complains that he can never get used to it because I twitch a lot.
It is so nice to know people can relate. I thought it was hopeless and I would never find anything to help with the pain.

I'm new to the group too, and new to this whole site. I'm very excited about it, and I'm thankful for it! I wish I had found it years ago!

I take Mirapex, the highest dosage, once a day at bedtime. I have not had side effects like weight gain or twitching that I can tell, but my doctor is worried about the fact that it has the potential to increase symptoms of obsessive compulsive behavior, something I, for one, display pretty severely, so that may be something to take into account.
I have not had any twitiching that is a result of Mirapex as far as I know.
