Yes my husband Tom participated in a Phase III clinical trial for pazpaonib which received FDA approval last October, I believe. He was on the trial from March 17 of last year through January of this year and got very good results. It is now marketed as Votrient.

Initially the side effects were tolerable, but during the last cycle, he suffered severe muscle and joint pain and had to leave the trial. That is NOT listed as a side effect, but it was his experience. However, having had good results with shrinkage of lung nodules, if and when it is time to go back on a chemo plan, he really would like to try that again. i have done some research on Pazopnib (Voltrient) and here are a few things that i have read up on..As of Feb 4th it slowed progression in patients 54% according to a study published in the journal of clinical oncology, it's pill form, well tolerated, and treatment outcome is to delay progression in MRCC.. Common side effects are,diarrhea 52%, hypertension, 40%, hair color changes 38%, nausea 28% weight loss 22% and vomiting 21%.. The only drawback being it can be very Toxic to the liver and liver enzymes would have to be taken from blood test frequently.

I also talked with Gloria alot when her husband was taking it and i do beleive that his muscle and joint pain were a side effect of Voltrient, i looked up alot about the newer drug for my own curiousity, as i like to know about whats out there if the Torisel stops working for Tim.. The reason i highly supect this is when i looked up more about the side effects of Torisel, this is now a newer side effect and the more years the newer drugs are out more people are taking them.. I happen to fall upon this being reported every year they do statistic's on all drugs..

I hope this helps you more and if this is something the oncologist are thinking about putting Steve on ask alot of questions.. I myself think it sounds very promising for the future..

Thank you Becca and Gloria. It is stressful to think about changing when Steve has done so well with Sutent. The doctor was telling Steve that he wanted to know when was having a really bad month, he will cut him back or discontinue for a week or so. We have a really good doctor at CMC and we trust him. It's rare to get a doctor with a good personality and the smarts to go with it. He has a PHD so we will do what he suggest. I hope Tim and Tom are doing well. Love, Wanda

Wanda, I just took my first dose of Votrient this morning! I came back to DS after being away a while in hopes of finding others with Votrient experience. I am my doctor's first patient on the drug and, I must confess, he was reluctant to prescribe it since he had no previous experience with it. After the research I did on all the treatment options for MRCC, I feel very strongly that the Votrient is my best chance.

I look forward to hearing from others with Votrient insight. I'm delighted to hear about Tom's success tho' I'm sorry to hear about the bone and muscle issues. This is my one shot at treatment so it has got to count!

Votrient is a fairly new drug for treating MRRC. It has been found to be effective with less side effects than sutent. I will probably start the drug in August, after my next CT scan.

I wonder if any one out there could tell me if they have been able to travel to the Caribbean while taking this drug

My father has been on Votrient for almost 6 weeks now. He has had very little side effects. Slight elevation in blood pressure and fatigue but nothing intolerable. Our doctor at Dana Farber in Boston suggested Votrient over Sutent because he felt the side effects were less. Going for 2 month follow-up MRI & CT Scan in 2 weeks, so hopefully, it is doing it's job.
