Renal cell carcinoma, also known by a gurnistical tumor, is the most common form of kidney cancer arising from the renal tubule. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults. Initial therapy is with surgery. It is notoriously resistant to radiation therapy and chemotherapy, although some cases respond to immunotherapy.

AFTER MY TUMOR AND 1/2 OF THE RIGHT KIDNEY WERE REMOVED I ASKED THE DR IF I SHOULD SEE AN ONCOLOGIST. HE SAID NO NEED TO. DO YOU FEEL THAT IS GOOD ADVICE?? I'M A LITTLE UNEASY WITH THAT. THE DR IS A UROLOGIST THAT DID MY SURGERY. I STILL AM HAVING DISCOMFORT IN MY GROIN AREA AND TESTICLE MAINLY THE RIGHT ONE. HE DOES'NT THINK IT IS ANY THING TO WORRY ABOUT. BUT AGAIN I AM CONCERNED. WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK??

Were you diagnosed with Cancer? If yes, you need to be followed up with an oncologist.

yes the dr said the cancer is level 3. the tumor and the kidney both had cancer in them. the tumor was next to the kidney from what i understand.

Hi Lenny,
If that was me i'd make a app with the oncologist, you are still in discomfort, with discomfort there is always concern.. Let the oncologist determine what he thinks is going on, you'll rest easier just talking to the doctor who will work you up with tests if he feels there is a problem.. You'll rest easier just knowing that your concerns will be taken care of, it may be nothing but you'll never know unless you go..Keep me informed in whatever you decide to do..

Lazer, I too had surgery on my right kidney for RCC. My entire kidney was removed. My urologist aslo was my surgeon. A wonderful man, physician and surgeon. He referred me to an oncologist, but "just to be sure". He (the urologist) did not really think there was a need, just wanted to be safe. He was wrong. The point is, doctors, no matter how good, are people too. They make mistakes. If it were me, I'd INSIST on an oncologist, preferably one in a teaching or research hospital, and one specializing in kidney cancer.

As for the sore testicle, I also had that. Never did figure out why. Maybe just trauma to that side. In any event, in about 4 months the soreness went away. But still mention it to your urologist.

I AM TRYING TO GET IN TO SEE AN ONCOLOGIST AT MAYO CLINIC IN MN. PROBLEM IS FUNDS. THEY NEED $500. UP FRONT. SO I HAVE TO SEE WHAT I CAN DO TO RAISE THAT.

I had my right kidney removed by my urologist and the pathology report said the cancer had not spread anywhere. I was not referred to an oncologist and I do feel comfortable with this. The pre-op tests and procedures were quite thorough and I have a follow up appt. scheduled for Apr 1.

I also have some discomfort in my right testicle, but it usually doesn't bother me and I have read here that it is common and will go away in a few months.

Yes!! Do not hesitate. See the oncologist. We are often to intimidated by doctors to seek a second opinion. I dont know but maybe I would not be in stage IV today if I hadnt listened to the same advice 7 yrs ago.
