Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer) Support Group

Renal cell carcinoma, also known by a gurnistical tumor, is the most common form of kidney cancer arising from the renal tubule. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults. Initial therapy is with surgery. It is notoriously resistant to radiation therapy and chemotherapy, although some cases respond to immunotherapy.

Does anyone else have these systoms after there surgry? I had a 2.5 cm tumor removed by Rf on my left kidney and the entire right kidny removed in November of 07. I gained almost 10lbs in 6 days while in the hospital on a liquid diet.
Since then I have gained another 10 lbs. My legs and feet are always swollen and no one seems to have any idea why. One doctor told me to go on a diet, I told him I was eating the same amount of food as before so its not something I'm doing. I take a water pill every morning, but they woun't allow me to take anymore do to the harshness of the drug on the one remaining kidney.
I also feel tired all the time.
I can accept these things if they are part of the kidney problem, but no one is telling me that. So whats up?????

I know exactly how the swollen legs and cramps feels mate and I hope this will help you. The only thing I have found to relieve this is Quinine. My doctor prescribes me the tablets but I also find that drinking Indian tonic water works wonders as it also has quinine in it. I hope this helps you.

I have the same problem with my legs and anklles swelling. I go each year to get a dobbler test to make sure I have no blood clot as i did once in 2002 and also I do it to be sure of good blood flow. Has your doctor ever mentioned it? You might want to check into it. I also have tried the tonic water but it hasn't helped me that much. I had the cancer myself and have gained wgt but I think it is because of some of the meds I am taking and also not exerising as I should.

Perhaps it's a form of lymphedema. The National Cancer Institute defines lymphedema as
"lymphedema (LIM-fuh-DEE-muh) A condition in which excess fluid collects in tissue and causes swelling. It may occur in the arm or leg after lymph vessels or lymph nodes in the underarm or groin are removed or treated with radiation."
I don't know but I imagine one could get swelling if one's kidney functions are impaired or if one has a kidney removed.

I don't think its what the lady says it could be as I have DVT in my legs - the only way they found the clot was because of swollen ankles and that was by accident. I was told I had athe kidney cancer then but the doctors never checked that. That was in 2002 and had the kidney removed in 2006. My doctor told me i was one lucky lady. Even though I have been all thru that, the fact remains that I still have swollen ankles and legs and wgt gain, but doctors say there is nothing they can do, just have to live with it. I really miss wearing high heels!!! I am embarrassed for anyone to see my legs. I have to wear skirts or dresses to church as my religion won't allow me to wear slacks. Seems everyone looks at my legs or at least I feel they do. lol
