Renal cell carcinoma, also known by a gurnistical tumor, is the most common form of kidney cancer arising from the renal tubule. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults. Initial therapy is with surgery. It is notoriously resistant to radiation therapy and chemotherapy, although some cases respond to immunotherapy.

Stage and Grade

My husband is a T 3 a and I keep getting asked if that's stage or grade. Do I need more info. it had not gone into the lymph nodes or adrenal or any other organs.

T3 is usually used to indicate the stage. This has to do with te size of the tumor and if it has spread and how far it has spread. From your explanation, I would say that you are at Stage 1 or 2. A stage 3 would indicate that the tumor has spread beyond the kidney. Grade refers to the Furhman scale. This is an indicator on how different the tumor cells are from normal kidney cells. This scale has 1 as the lowest and 4 as the highest.
About a week after your surgery, you should have received a pathology report from your doctor. If you have not, ask for it. The report will list the stage, furhman scale and the type of cancer. Renal cancer has 4 subtypes, with Clear Cell the most common.
