Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer) Support Group

Renal cell carcinoma, also known by a gurnistical tumor, is the most common form of kidney cancer arising from the renal tubule. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults. Initial therapy is with surgery. It is notoriously resistant to radiation therapy and chemotherapy, although some cases respond to immunotherapy.

Hi, my name is Dee, and 8 weeks ago I had a partial nephrectomy for papillary RCC with the DaVinci Robot. All went well with the surgery, but I find now I'm urinating far more often, and several times at night. Has anyone had this problem after surgery. I'm worried my mild, but chronic, kidney failure may have gotten worse with the surgery, but the Dr. told me he took such a small piece it shouldn't affect me. I have an appt. with my PCP on the 16th for blood work, but frankly I'm worried. I try not to drink too much, but I'm going a lot, and it's mostly clear.

I guess the surgery didn't bother me as much, because I've had 5-way-bypass surgery 12 years ago, and it would take a lot to top that pain. I had about 3 days of pain and then it was much better, but now I'm more worried then ever.

Does anyone urinate more after their surgery. I don't overdo the water, and am cautious at bedtime not to drink.

Hi-

I had ablation surgery and haven't had any frequency problems. I was told to drink a lot of water as it was good for my kidneys especially after surgery.

Hi Dee,
I had two partials with the DaVinci, one on each kidney. I did not notice any change in my frequency after either surgery (they were 3 months apart). It wouldn't hurt to mention it to your doctor and get his input.

Thanks for the feeback. The urgency seems to be slowing down, but I have an appt. for blood work on Sept. 10, and a dr. appt. on Sept. 16, so I will get to the bottom of it. Unfortunately, I had chronic kidney disease before the surgery. The Dr. assured me he took out such a small piece of the kidney it should not affect me, so I'm hoping it was just a matter of healing and drinking too much water. Thanks again for your help.

I am not sure what would cause that but don't get to worried because that seems to make things worse. I would talk to the doctor about it and, by the way, talk to the doctor about anything your worried about. You should actually keep a note pad for questions because if your like me I forget have the stuff I want to talk about once I'm in the doctors office.
