Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer) Support Group
Renal cell carcinoma, also known by a gurnistical tumor, is the most common form of kidney cancer arising from the renal tubule. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults. Initial therapy is with surgery. It is notoriously resistant to radiation therapy and chemotherapy, although some cases respond to immunotherapy.
I am so glad that your news was so encouraging. Although people and surgeries aren't identical, I can tell you that my husband had the full incision from front to back to remove his kidney. He had significant swelling for the first month, then little by little, the swelling went away. I don't recall what his pain situation was, but one thing the doctor told him was not to wait until the pain was too much before taking the meds, to keep a level of tolerance. I recall he slowly weaned himself off the pain meds.
I'm glad you will be scanned in 6 months. I pray that you will be blessed with a clean bill of health forever and always!
Bless you,
Linda
your news of your biopsy of stage one, grade one is wonderful news and a follow up cat scan is exactly what they do for your gradeing and stageing, what wonderful news and your chances are 99% that you will make a full recovery and they got all the rcc out and all you'll need is follow up cat scans for the rest of your life... So don't worry about the 6 month time limit for a catscan, even tho it wasn't benign, this is great news !!
About your swelling and bm movements, the swelling will take time, especially all the trauma of everything that was done inside you, you have to heal from the inside out and removing your rib and then knicking your diaphram takes time to heal, so just take care of you and in time that will heal and the swelling will go way...With taking pain meds thats hard to get normal bm movement, did your doctor mention anything for you to take ?? Bowel sounds are good things meaning they are active, maybe a gentle laxative would help, like Senekot which is a vegtable laxative would help, but i suggest talking with your doctor before trying anything, he may have other idea's for you to try, you don't want to strain yourself....
Congradulations on your results and i hope this email helps, but always remember to check with your doctor before starting anything new...
Good luck !!
Becca
Cancer stage/level 3. My stomach area has not felt the same since. It feels like the shape of my mid section has changed. My bm took time too I think it was a week or so. The swelling lasted some time. I go back in March for my 3rd scan. So far so good. My cancer surgery was last Nov. My rny was in 2007,Aug. Down 130 lbs and feel real good. My biggest concerns today are the cancer coming back and some trouble with neuropathy. Good luck I feel you will be just fine with time!

I'm so thankful that I had the rny though. Mine was 7 months or so ago, and I'm down 100 pounds.
I pray that your results in March are only good news. Thank you so much for responding to my post.
