Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer) Support Group

Renal cell carcinoma, also known by a gurnistical tumor, is the most common form of kidney cancer arising from the renal tubule. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults. Initial therapy is with surgery. It is notoriously resistant to radiation therapy and chemotherapy, although some cases respond to immunotherapy.

My husband is stage 4 RCC he is currently undergoing radiology treatments on his ribs and the pain across the front of his chest has gotten better but he is having horrible pin on his back by the rib. The dr. and radiation technician have tried to figure out what's going on with no luck. He sees the Radiation Medicine Monday and Oncologist Wednesday and I'm afraid if they don't have an answer I'll flip out. I can't stand seeing him in this kind pain and all the pain meds don't work . Thanks for listening to me unload.

Oh, Hon...I am so sorry your husband is in pain and having such a difficult time. I will be praying that they will figure out what is going on, and be able to relieve the pain. Always remember that God is the ultimate physician. He can do things men can't.

my husband ( STAGE IV RCC SINCE June) developed Neuropathic pain from the radiation treatments, he described it s almost like a shock, electric sharp pain, super painful. He had cyber knife on his L4 vertebrae and it was close to a nerve. The pain ran down his leg and they were able to give him a RX Gabapentin (Neurontin). did they mention anything about nerve pain caused by the radiation/ it is a side effect we didn't hear about until he developed it. hang in there

I so pray each day gets better. That his pain is reduced. Like Ingrid said, God is the ultimate physician.

Today is a better day for the pain and I pray it stays that way. Unfortunately his upset stomach has returned...not throwing up just upset, probably the radiation and the Votrient.

I have stage 4 RCC and was told at the MAYO that radiation and chemo DO NOT work on RCC. Please get another opinion and I tell every to get a referral to the MAYO. I have been doing quite well and everything is shrinking.

Hi everyone, my husband is doing so much better, he actually took a walk with the dog, went out to lunch and went to see our daughters new house. The pain at times is not as bad as it was and the upset stomache is gone most of the time. I know it may all come back but I just thank God that we are having some good days. The Oncologist found out that his Thyroid was not working well and his Thyroid count was low so he put him on Synthroid.

WONDERFUL news, Hon! So thankful that your husband is doing better, and able to get out and enjoy life. Even though radiation doesn't cure RCC, I know it helps shrink tumors and decrease pain. My husband has had that done on the brain mets. They shrunk about 50%, and relieved many of the neurological issues he was experiencing.
We all must take it "one day at a time"....but make the most of the gift of each day God gives us.
