Ask what their approach to therapy is. If they tell you, "I'm eclectic", then move on to the next one. To me, that just says that they have no strong theoretical position and tend to borrow from different theories. To me, that doesn't make for good therapy. Also, listen to your gut while you are speaking on the phone. If you feel that your personalities are compatible, then you'll probably feel comfortable with them. If, however, something gives you pause, just move on to the next. Basically, you don't want to just go to the first therapist on the list. Take your time to choose, get recommendations if possible and go with the one with whom you feel most comfortable. Best of luck!
