There really is no clear cheater bashing in it... i don't think. It just shows the eventual misinterpretation of each others feelings and the gradual growing apart of people when they think only of themselves. Absolutely no sex but some mild sexual references.
We are not active members of our religion either and we didn't find it overly religious. The message is wonderful though.
We saw it at the theatre when it was still playing. Haven't done the love dare but norarose has me curious to see what we'd make of it...
If nothing else, the Love Dare is opening up my eyes to how easily we take our relationships for granted and gives you a big "in your face!" about how big a response we get for a simple, considerate action. It is really helping me focus on being a better person... the better relationship is an added perk. (I still maintain that I have always been a good wife and mother- but I'm recognizing the areas that I can work on to be even better.)
I would have have liked to do it along with my husband, but I wonder if it would change the perspective and progress. As it is, this introspective focus is also a plus for me.
I'm curious of other couple's responses to the Love Dare, and whether they did it alone or together. I know someday in the future, I'll go back to it- maybe not go through all 40 days step by step, but use it as a tool to continue to grow.
I really had that backward thinking that you would only do it if your relationship is in trouble... WRONG!
I'm going to give it a try soon.
It might take us 2 years to do 40 days...LOL..but that's okay because we are both on the same page at least..no pun intended.
I have to share this because it plays on my mind alot. One of the early dares asks you to share three things that annoy, irritate, bother you about your partner. Mine were easy, the fact that he cheated, the fact that he lied and the fact that he wouldn't confront the OW in front of me and stand up for us. His were that I spoil our grand-daughter, I put cheese and ranch dressing on his food before I taste it which offends him because he thinks he is such a great cook and he is, and third, I wear underwear to bed. WTF? But it opened my eyes to the way he thinks, just a little. And of course, these are all things that we never talked about in the past, things he never told me before hand that I could have possibly changed (except the wearing underwear to bed - he calls them asbestos because I have always said - what if there is a fire in the middle of the night!)
So yes, doing the love dare together is a real eye-opener. We have made a lot of changes in our relationship. While he may suffer from the loss of the OW, I miss my cheese and ranch dressing desperately!
And, if I get to add more to MY list, tabasco sauce is not necessary on every dish I make! haha!
This reminds me of a story told to me by an older, retired couple. The wife kept pushing him to eat his favorite vegetable that she made often through their 40-50 years of marriage. He finally lost it. He told her- I hate green beans! I've always hated green beans! The only reason I ever ate green beans was because you always made them and I didn't want to make you feel bad! Food for thought (pun intended), little things can grow to giant proportions if we don't deal with them while they're small...
I do tell him to taste his food before he adds salt etc. but how he eats his food is his business. That sounds like a control issue to me. I say if you like ranch dressing or cheese, you should use them.
At least now we joke about it...I take one bite and then I say...MAN this is great but you know WHAT would make it even more AWESOME???
You can guess the rest...LOL
