I'm not sure. Depends on your age and the state you live in and possibly a million other factors. If you need to tell someone you can start small, even with your therapist. You can say he hurt you and you're angry or upset or whatever without giving out the details of it. Or you can say someone hurt you but they are gone now and can't come back. The point is to help you work through the pain rather than give them a reason to pursue any other actions.

First, there is nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about. That was the first thing I had to learn after my attack, once I got passed that I was able to deal with it. But, that was me, not everyone has the same experience. Second, seeing as how your "dad" is dead I see no reason for your therapist to tell anyone. At your age you should have the expectation of privacy UNLESS you are a danger to others, or committing crimes, or if you are in danger. You are no longer in danger, your "dad' isn't there to hurt you, there is no chance of him being back in your life. But as motherofcourage said what should be, and what is can be two different things. My advice would be to ask a general question of your therapist such as "what is my confidentiality with you? What do you tell my grandparents, what are you not allowed to tell etc....". This way you can blow it off as "just curious", but you would know. Good Luck, I wish I could be there to support you.

Hi. Weirdly I am in a very similar situation to you. I am 16. I was abused a lot by my step dad and he is dead and I live with my grandparents. I did get pregnant and have a baby. I feel embarrassed that my grandparents know and I have other problems that I keep quiet about because I don't want them to know cos stuff is embarrassing. You can talk to me whenever you want. If you aren't in any danger anymore, I don't think your therapist would tell them if you asked her not to. As someone else said, you could always ask her first. ((hugs))
