I never told my parents about the assault I went through recently... I tried to tell them about the other two, but they weren't really very supportive or helpful through it all. I feel they lost their chance. My parents are super controlling of my life and already have double standards between my brother and I (which they even admit). They see girls as being vulnerable and believe women should be really careful to be modest at all times...they'd probably have me wearing a paperbag if it were allowed. I think if I told them it would just make them even more over-protective and it would be worse for me. They probably wouldn't let me out of their sight and anytime I started dating someone would become even more paranoid.

I do feel really bad about not telling them, but I know it's my decision and the doctors and counselors said I didn't have to tell anyone I didn't want to because I'm over 18....but I feel really bad because if my daughter had undergone such a traumatic thing it would really break my heart if she never told me.

I also feel bad that my future husband will have to know about it and my own parents won't know a thing...
