I get really troubled when I hear anything about sex. It doesn't matter what it is: sex in the bible, sex in a movie, rape shows, romance novels, the gratuitous speeches and sermons I hear at school about how you'd better not have premarital sex, but my only purpose in my life is to get married and have LOTS of kids and never ever say no to my husband, not about sex anyway. Sometimes it's something as simple as hearing the word "whore" or somebody calling me a woman (which...you know, is valid since I am), or seeing or hearing a baby. To be honest, I can't handle it all that well. I find it's best to either excuse myself to the bathroom for a few minutes to get back some composure, fast forward if possible, put it on mute, or just close my eyes. I also avoid romance novels and chick flicks because...well, I know it's in there.
I react much the same when seeing sexual contact in movies or television and hearing certain words also give e flashbacks.i used to watch Law and Order SVU, because the actors and the way they played their parts comforted me. I felt like they would help me if I went to them. That may sound strange. I also liked seeing the bad guys get caught. The men who hurt me are still on the street. I moved three hundred miles away from them, but I still visit my family in the area. I'm there right now. I thought I saw one the other day, but I ducked down then never saw him again. But I couldn't take the show anymore. It got under my skin and I stopped. Now I'm so sensitive to everything.
Thank you for talking to me. It is helpful to know I'm not alone.
