So it has been a long while since my trauma. I was raped the first time in September of 2006. When it first happened, I had trouble saying, writing, or even hearing the "R" word. I got to a point where I could write about it, and talk a little about it....but then I went back to not being able to talk about it. Besides my counselors, nobody at my college knows what happened. I realized today in my session that I still have a little trouble saying the word. I would rather not have that word come out my mouth. It's been so long and you would think I can say the word now without feeling filthy or disgusting or whatever.
Does anyone else have trouble saying the "R" word? I thought this was a problem that would go away with time, but maybe it's not. Will I always have trouble with this word? What do you think?

It's a trigger for me still. I wish it just went away.

I feel like I will always have trouble saying it. Or writing it. or reading it. Its so ugly and terrible. Whats worse is when people casually throw it into conversation and they don't even know how sick it makes me. I might get easier but im not sure if it will ever go away exactly.

You are definitely not alone, it is hard for me to write, hear, or see it as well. I definitely can't say it out loud myself. I know I can't do that.

I was just wondering. Some times, even seeing words like Grape and therapist, and even ape makes my heart stop. Some days, it's hard to function at all :-/ Even hearing word that rhyme with the "R" word, like rate or rake, sometimes I just can't deal...

Yup, same here. I remember having to double take a few times when I was reading something and came across word 'therapist'.

I was robbed and raped last November (2013) at work. I used to have trouble with it to... A LOT! I got a journal and started writing about what happened to me. The more I wrote, the more I got used to it. Then I openly started talking to people about it. The more you do something the more you become comfortable with it. Dont treat it as taboo. Treating something as "taboo" makes it feel wrong. Look at it as something you can reward yourself for. Besides, there is NOTHING to be ashamed of even though you may feel that way sometimes. Every time you say it or write it... give yourself a pat on the back and polish your nails or have a banana split or just find a way to reward yourself. A survivor can get through ANYTHING... I HAVE FAITH IN YOU MY DEAR "Swoop" and you can do it. Just believe in yourself like I believe in you. Hope that helps a little. It did for me :)
