I've seen that commercial before I think it is cute cause girls like playing house but seeing it the way you said it was it is a bit sexist. idk though I think it is innocent but the connotation for woman's place being in the house is there. it did make me laugh.

I used to be one of those kids who always preferred taking things apart to figure out how they work - not the kind of thing girls are encouraged to do lol!
I wish girls were given the opportunity to do that, it would give us much more confidence in adult life on when it comes to fixing cars and bikes :)

i thought the toy was cute when i first saw it so bought it for my niece and i rember her opening it and saying to her brother you know when we play house your cleaning too i had to laugh my niece is 4 and she already know that mommy anit the only one who can cook clean ectect lol

Anyone remember the "Talking Barbie" fiasco? She actually said "Math is hard!" This, BTW, prompted The Simpson's spoof of the incident, as the "Malibu Stacey" that Lisa protested.

Or the boy's and girl's PC's that Mattel produced? The boy's computers had encyclopedias, brain teasers, etc. The girl's computer had fashion design games.

Now that last one really *is* worrying, even in my day that kind of thing would have been frowned on (not that PCs were ever kids' toys then.) At least they were starting to discourage girls from 'dumbing-down' in the mid-70s, what went wrong?

What pisses me off even more is seeing things like padded bras on sale in childrenswear departments; or one particularly tasteless example my friend told me about recently, a small girls sized T-shirt with the message "Future Porn Star" printed across the front. wtf???
These things are probably being bought by parents who also think that all paedophiles should be castrated, but who won't think about things like this?
