If a person has never been sexually abused or assaulted, they'll never be able to empathize with those who have, and it is hard to listen to for most people.
I don't think they'd think you're weird. It's just such a taboo and uncomfortable subject. As much as it happens, it's not something that's talked about openly enough for a lot of reasons. One, because people need to be held accountable and most abusers never are. It also hits close to home because, so often, that's where most abuse comes from.
Law enforcement, and laws in general, aren't set up to really step up and try to put a stop to all the abuse. It's easier to just look away and go after the easier offenses.
I read something a while back where thousands of rape kits were still sitting in evidence lockers in a number of states across America and hadn't been tested yet. How horrible. These people were brave enough to go and be subjected to that and now their attackers are most likely still free because law enforcement won't even look at the evidence. It's atrocious.
I'm really sorry this has upset you so. I hope you can speak to someone, hopefully your husband. He needs to understand before he begins to think it's something to do with him. I hope you two have a good relationship. Communication is key.
